I am now in the same situation as the other individual and have taken the same steps, i have filed a comlaint with the state i live in and the state of New York. I have been told that they used illegal sales tactics by stating the gift before what they were selling and also have been told by magazine companies they "represent" or so they said that the magazine companies themselves had no idea they were in operation. I have tried to cancel and they said the time was up however upon follow up with the magazine publishers specificly Time and another was told the order had not been placed which is contradicting what Family Readers said. I was also under the influence at the time I agreed and tried to cancel 12 or 15 days later and was told I would need to pay $400 for the magazines they had pre-ordered. That is what prompted me to call the companies directly and was told they had not placed the order and one lady named vivian said typically they take 120 days to order after Family readers gets their initial payment. I am have talked to a lawyer who advised me to not pay and cancel my card and that if it became a bigger problem he would help. I would love to see these people brought to justice for running a poor business and using deceptive sales tactics and outright lies (no free gift, and still have yet to see most promised magazines 3 months later).

3rd Threat

AUTHOR: Bfm05200 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 29, 2007

I received another threat from Family Readers of a ruined credit score and now that they know I am posting these they no longer will sign a name to the letters sent stricty "Customer Service/Collections Dept." The letter reads basically trying to force me to pay an illegally incurred alleged debt with the company they will ruin my credit. If they don't hear from me within 10 days. If i don't my credit "will not stay intact". The letter is fantastically written and proofread by what seems to be a small child, incase they read this please refer to the above proper way of spelling intact and also this is the third time you have threatened my credit so please stop trying to get me to pay the bill and go ahead and attempt to ruin my credit so I may proceed with my plan of taking you to court. I am sure more will come from them (even though this is the "FINAL NOTICE" and I will update this when it does.

Story Continues.

AUTHOR: Bfm05200 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 07, 2007

Just got a call from Family Readers saying that my account will be going to their legal department in 48 hours. Incase a Lawyer happens to look at this stuff the call came in at 1:20 EST on 11-7-07 by Andrea his phone number is 1-877-424-1430 ext 232. He has a touching threatening tone. I used to work collections so I will juet deal with it when they call but any more advice would be good. Oh, and by deal with it I do not mean pay it. also on October 26, 2007 I got a PAST DUE notice stating I would need to pay $1148.85 which is around 30 times what my monthy payment I didn't agree towould be according to them. I have also told them about 15 days ago to not call and that I would not be paying because they said they would attempt to "ruin my credit as much as they could". In the letter it lists the same phone number I wrote above as "Customer Service/Collection Dept. Seems to be another lie that they arenow going to send it to collections and I am only guessing no collections agency will work with this company due to poor business practice which would most likely lead to lawsuits for the collections company.

I have verbally told them to stop contacting me and send it to a collections agency and they have not respected my wish so I will now be reporting a complaint to authorities of harrasment by an out of state company. I will also try and see if I can find out more info on the company and what possible license they need to do this work with the State of New York and most likely will contact the businesses insurance provider to let them know of my thoughts on filling a lawsuit, if they lose their insurance they lose the ability to run a business.
