This bank is the worst for car loans. My online bill payment system sent them a payment with the account number on the check. They sent the check to me as my address was also on the check with a letter saying the account number was wrong and to please resend the payment with the right account number. The account number was wrong as it was the first payment but the full name of the account holder was not the check. Regardless I followed their instructions and sent the original check copy of their letter and one of their payment stubs and a letter from me back to them. Collection calls continued and the check was later reversed back into my checking account. My bank explained that the check was sent back to them with a note that the account number was wrong and they were unable to accept the check!! After I had sent the check back to them with a payment voucher stapled to it!

I called fifth third bank and went through a regular representative and a supervisor who both refused to listen to me refused to supply any fax information so I could send copies of their letter to me and the check copy and reversal on the bank but insisted quite rudely that I make a payment right now. I was fine making a payment as they had just reversed the payment but I wanted it posted based on the day I sent the original payment and I didn't want a late fee. I couldn't even get that far. After 15 minutes of them insisting their system was right and insisting the bank would not send me such a letter and calling me a liar I yelled at the supervisor to stop interrupting me and let me finish my sentence. He told me my screaming wasn't necessary and hung up on me!! Apparently anything more than a complete docile customer that accepts that we are all losers and should pay $50 late payments when they are not deserved are not acceptable.

Based on the 100s of criticisms I've found all over the internet this is pretty much common practice with them.
