Just got off the phone with Amanda at First Merit Bank in Wayne, Ohio. Called to complain about over draft fees to my account.
Check my account online at 1 am on friday May 26, nothing new had been posted. When I checked my account online at 3:15 pm friday the 26 I had 3 checks come in and now they are back dated to thursday the 25.At 3:26 I deposited 250.00 into my account. By Sat. morning the 27, I now have two overdraft fees of 33.00 each. Not to mention that my ihop charge that had been put on hold is now no longer showing. When I talked to Amanda she told me that the online banking is only a tool to help you, not to do your banking by. When I told her about the back dating of the checks she told me she doesn't know why they do that and she would have to ask the online division.
When I asked about the ihop charge disappearing she said that after 3 days of being on hold they drop off! Where do they go??? And that the money is then made available again. I told her that was dumb why would they make money that had been put on hold for payment available again. Told her I am not happy and I am looking for another bank.
Feel like they hold us hostage in this small town because we have no other bank close by. Have had other checking accounts and have not had these issues.

I just wanted to state that First merit has done this to me several times, but we do not have any good local bank here in our little town so am stuck at the moment. i do my banking online as well and have been told that it is accurate so when i see i have available balance, and i figure in all that i have out, i know i have a certain amount to spend then WHAM! next time i look, usually every day, something has come through and they have hit me with fees. i think they are doing that thing where they take biggest out first so they can get more $$ i wish someone could prove what they are doing and do something about it. i am going to get my printer working and start printing out the online statement everyday and then keep track of what is going in and out, i am starting to think they are charging twice for some items, like they say hold, and are supposed to come out and be reflected in available balance but when you look next day, it appears that they take it out again and then i get a fee, but cannot prove anything , and they give me runaround so am going to start copying page to try and catch them at it.
if anyone has luck getting at them to prove they are doing wrong, let me know
