These clowns are a joke. They asked for me when they called my workplace, I told them I have an attorney and tried to give them his phone number. The jerk said "I'm not writing anything down" as if he were ten and I was telling him to go to bed and he were putting his fingers in his ears. The easy way to deal with these idiots in my case (since I am unfortunately having to file for bankruptcy) was to give my attorney a call and to have him call them. As stupid as these idiots are I doubt they're so dumb that they would set themselves up for a lawsuit after being told that I have retained legal representation and to stop screwing with me. I understand they have a job to do, as crappy as that job may be, but their reps must be the people who have no other skills than a mastering of being a completely unprofessional rude jerk. Now that I've called my lawyer the phones calls from them are non-existent. Don't deal with these boneheads unless you have to. Nobody wants to file for bankruptcy, but in these times its all some of us can do. So why is the answer to hire the biggest losers on the planet to make your calls? What's that saying about attracting more bee's with honey than feces?

Retaining legal representation

There's a lot of gray area regarding collectors calling upon a debtor retaining an attorney. Debt collectors are initially prohibited from calling a debtor once they retain an attorney. However, after a "reasonable period of time" that the attorney doesn't hypothetically respond, collectors can resume calling the debtor again. That whole "reasonable period of time" is open to interpretation. However it's generally about 30 days. Creditors can dun you and/or your attorney until the bankruptcy petition is filed. Only then with the automatic stay kicking in are you truly in the clear.
