Ok, so your bank account has less money than it should on pay day. There is this little thing called overdraft protection to be used only when absolutely needed. Let's say you have $50.00 in your bank account. You absolutly need to have that new stereo for your vehicle.

You need about 200.00 for it. Your bank tells you you can withdraw 200.00 dollars from your bank account and charge you 12.75 for withdrawing against your account when there are no funds available. When you make the ATM w/d for 200.00 dollars, you have then made your account negative 150.00 because you already had 50.00 to begin with.

Remember, the bank will charge 12.75 for taking money out when you didnt have it. So, that would take it to 162.75. Another thing you need to consider is the atm you go to. Certain atm machines will charge extra to use them, along with your bank. So let's say the atm charges 1.00 for its use and your bank charges 1.00 for using a non local atm, that's 2.00.

In the end, its normally about 164.75 that you will be in the hole. Your bank account will be standing in the negative. So what happens when you add lets say about 400.00 to that? It leaves you with about 235.25. Oh, and one other thing you probably need to think about is that if you have overdraft protection, every single transaction that takes place after you go negative will create a fee of 12.75.

Let's say you go over 1 day about 50.00, that's one fee...the next day you ask for more and only use about 10.00, that's another 12.75 fee. You can always request statements that tell where exactly your money went.
