I'm a 23 year old mother of two trying to earn some extra cash and looked up freelance writing from home as an option. I jumped onto the www.freelancehomewriters.com website hoping that this could help me out. I read through what they were offering and thought it sounded great - especially considering my circumstances.

It asked for an initial $2.95USD to get started so they could set me up with some freelance writing work. I thought "what the hell" it's only $2.95 and if it could help me earn some extra cash, then it was well worth it. After signing up and authorising the debit of the $2.95 - I then read on through tonns and tonns of information and decided that this was definitely NOT for me. I was a bit annoyed at having been ripped off for just the $2.95 but shrugged it off as a stupid idea. I tried to contact the company through their 'contacts' section on their website immediatley to cancel my registration. I got absolutely no reply. Then I saw a couple of days down the track that my credit card had been debited a further $49.95! Where the hell did that come from??? There was ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION of a $49.95 membership fee anywhere and I most certainly did not authorise such a debit. I tried contacting them over and over and never got a response.

As a result of this I have had to cancel my credit card and am now in the process of disputing the transaction through my financial institution. It's really sad that I had gone into this hoping that I could help the household out a little by earning some extra money and what ended up happening - we were out of pocket, so much that my credit card went into negative which in turn, attracted an overlimit fee of a further $35!!! It just gets worse and worse...

All I can say to those of you out there is, don't go out there and make a mistake like this. A company asking you to PAY THEM to HELP YOU earn cash is COMPLETE RUBBISH. I'm truly sorry I didn't realise this sooner. I think it's ridiculous that this company gets away with it.

Very annoyed

If you look at other similar sites that list Freelance Writing jobs you will see that even if they don't state it outright, you are almost always bidding on a job. I have been a member for about 4 months now and am satisfied with thier service. They provide exactly what they say on thier website and charge you what they advise as well. You pay your fee, set up your profile and then you pick jobs you would be willing to do and say how much you are willing to do them for. I have yet to find any company that is looking for freelance anything that is going to take the first person that comes along. If you don't like that fact that it isn't a "I like that one, its mine" situtation you should really find something better to do with your time than freelance. NOTHING is guaranteed in the world of freelance. You could even be offered a job and then turned down after you submit your work due to them no liking what you did. As long as they don't use it, its legal.

Bidding??

AUTHOR: Ldsmith - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 25, 2008

What is meant by bidding for writing jobs? Looking at the website, I did notice the 47$ MONTHLY charge NOT one time charge. That I was ok with, considering the potential earnings. There was however, NO MENTION of having to bid for writing assignments. What is the deal with that?

Thanks,

Lerone

Absolutely not a rip-off

I'm sorry to say that I am a little tired of seeing so many people post this company as a rip-off. The "$47" dollars that they charge you (not 49.95) is clearly stated right on the front page before you even sign up. it says it's 2.95 for the trial then they will charge you the 47 dollars. This site does exactly what it says it does, it helps you to find freelance writing assignments and makes it phenomenally easy to do so by having a unique job search engine. Instead of going through all the different websites out there to look for freelance writing jobs, it literally posts on one page all of the jobs available in your desired category. I'm very happy to pay the 47 dollar initial fee (even though I only started a few weeks ago )) because i have already created my profile and am bidding on several writing jobs, and I feel confident that I will be able to make that money back and then some in no-time. Just because you are a person who sees one thing on the internet and then jumps in on it without reading the fine details or the small print, doesn't give you the right to butcher the credibility of a legitimate organization. Everything having to do with Freelance home writers is explained up front and honestly. I encourage anybody who is interested in making some money doing what you love , writing, definitely give it a shot, take the trial, read the awesome information, see if you have what it takes and stick with it, or decide within a week that you're not going to do it and cancel so that you aren't charged anything more. no harm no foul. hope this information helps somebody.

Contact difficulties with memebership cancelation during the free trail period.

AUTHOR: Desperate - (South Africa)

I have the same problems as the persons who filed the above reports. The only contact I got back is from Gabby, but upon replying, my mail gets returned with deamon delayed failures.I left numerous mails on their site. I tried different internet services with superfast speed. I tried numerous email addresses in which I mentioned my username, email address and even my password. The only respons I got from these people was my login name and password.

I gave all my contact information upon registration. I have deadlines to cancel membership, but how do you get hold of this company if you cant get hold of them? Not even by tellephone?

I will be glad if these people will somehow make communication with them possible, because if the deadline past, you can't get your money back if you want to cancel during the free trail. In the terms and conditions it is stated that you pay a fee per month, now they have dedecuted a fee per week!

This is really a problem.

On the sales page before you enter your credit card information, on the left hand side it states "But I'm going to take the risk off you completely by letting you join today for only $2.95. If you decide to stay a member we will charge you a one time membership fee of $49.95. This will grant you lifelong access to working from home as a freelance home writer." If you go back to www.freelancehomewriters.com you will find that it does indeed state this.
