Ain't that the truth!

Hi,
I am sorry that the posted got ripped off on that repair. Geeeez.

It would help us if they itemized it and we could see it. They probably charge something like $80 (could be an old amount and cost more now days) just to come to your house. Then they charge about $60 or so an hour. Mark-up on their parts covers the cost or procurring it and possibly carrying it as stock... Those things quickly add up.

I got out of electronic repair years ago and went into electronic manufacturing. That was because it was cheaper to replace most appliances than it was to repair. I recently had a dryer have its bearings go out. I went out and got a new dryer from one of the stores. By getting a "scratch and dent" dryer I got a new appliance for just a little more than repairing the old one.

When my desktop computer died I wasn't sure if it was the micro-processor or the motherboard or what. It was cheaper to just buy both and replace them than to pay someone to look at it, tell me for sure and THEN pay to have it replaced.

I guess the only down side to having such inexpensive appliances now days is the cost of repairing isn't worth it.

Why would you pay to have one fixed

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm
Looking through the sale ads for all the chain stores from the Sunday paper...microwave ovens of all sizes and brands are selling for less than $200. Most are about $80-$120. Why would you pay to have one fixed. I don't even know of a place that will do it because new ones are so cheap. Same thing with VCR's.
