We brought an old laptop at Geek Squad at Best Buy to be serviced. We were asked to pay about $70 dollars for their "diagnostics" and was told that they will contact us within 48 hours to let us know what is wrong with our laptop or whether they can fix it.

After six (6! yes 6) days and only after we went there to inquire about the laptop, this guy at the counter simply said they can not fix the laptop. When asked what was wrong with it and why can they not fix it, he simply said "I don't know" (I kid you not).

So we asked for a report of the diagnostics and he handed us a folder (alhtough I must admit the folder was quite cute) and asked us to sign a paper stating that we acknowledge taht service has been performed by the geek squad.

The folder handed to us merely contained the invoice and not report of any diagnostics. We asked for a refund considering that they did not do anything with the laptop. We recognize the fact that we paid for diagnostics and that we pay whether or not they can fix the laptop; but we expected that at least we get a diagnostics report. Some evidence that work was done on the laptop.

Then we asked why it took them so long, since they told us that someone will contact us within 48 hours..again the answer was "i don't know".

It was clear to us that talking to this geek is counterproductive. We did not want to stay in that store a minute longer. It was a nice Sunday and that encounter was ruining most of it. So we refuse to talk to a person who obviously do not care if he is giving any service at all.

We walked out with the laptop and vowed never to return to the geek squad. So please beware of this, if you do have something serviced with these guys, make sure that you call them and hound them about your computer; no one around the store will go out of their way to be of service.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with the Geek Squad located in Aiea, HI.

At the same time though I find it very disheartening that you think that your personal case would be worthy enough to discourage others from using the services provided at GeekSquad.

Yes. I'm partial to that particular precinct due to the fact that my husband works there. Since he has worked there I have become very close friends with the other "Geeks" that work there as well.

Personal feelings aside though. I know all of these people on a professional level and while I am not trying to speak for all the "Geeks" employed there I would like to let anyone reading this know that most of the guys that work there are really good at what they do and do everything in their power to do the job quickly and accurately the first time.

Honestly, put yourself in their shoes for just a moment.

You have people coming up to you all day asking you questions about things that are second nature to you and you can't for one second understand why the person complaining doesn't know the difference between a megabyte and a gigabyte or that the hard drive is in the computer and that the monitor is NOT the computer.

Now why would these guys want to put up with this stuff and then PURPOSELY blow a customer off just so they could be complained to some more. (And the next complaints wouldn't just be from the costumer, they would start leaking in from supervisors and managers as well).

Anyways, my point here is that while you may have come across a "Bad Geek" (which if it's who I'm thinking it might be I'm pretty sure that guy has been fired by now) but just know that there are other great, hard working and very knowledgable "Geeks" left to help out.

Thank you for taking the time to read my (long winded) rebuttal. And I hope that you can avoid any further complications when it comes to your computer repair.
