Geico is my automobile insurance company.

When a woman rear ended me on the freeway, we exchanged insurance company information and I called Geico to find out what to do.  Geico took my statement of what took place, and they said I should not be at fault for the accident since the other driver rear-ended me.

Geico called back and said I was 80% at fault, that they would take care off everything, and I needed to do no more.

I followed up with them to prove to them this was utterly impossible and provably so.  Unless the woman, who worked at the same hospital as I did, had entered in an earlier on-ramp instead of entering on the same on-ramp behind me, it would have been utterly impossible for her to be more established in the lane behind me than I was.

I called Geico again to ask the insurance adjuster to view the map of the freeway and on-ramp.  He was looking at an entirely different on-ramp and had the place of the accident totally incorrect.  I called back and talked to his coworker to ask why James Vavra, my adjuster had not tried to clarify which on-ramp the other driver entered the freeway from, and upon examining the map, he said he could understand why I wanted to know.  He promised he would ask the other driver which on-ramp she used.  And perhaps company promises don't mean much to Geico, but I took this to be a sincere company promise.  I called back and James claimed the answer my question was irrelevant.

That is a pathetic way of getting out of one's responsiblity and getting out of keeping one's company promises.  Geico had not even made sure t had critical information needed before an honest determination could be made that ithe accident was indeed my fault.  James merely bragged about his experience and made excuses for failing to get to the truth.  Thus to me it seems the man and his company have no interest in getting to the truth if a lie will make things easier.

As a result of Geico's actions, the accident may go on my record unjustly and dishonestly and raise my insurance rates.

If the accident were indeed my fault I would rather take responsiblity honestly than to lie as a coward and a thief would do and have the other person foot a bill they did not deserve to be burdened with.  I am disappointed over Geico's lack of interest in finding out the facts before making their decisions, especially when it comes to laying blame onto their customers unjustly.

Addressing the wrong problem

AUTHOR: Dan - ()

POSTED: Saturday, April 26, 2014

If you were to read my posting, you would see that it has nothing to do with the price of parts or the work done by any body shop.  It has everything to do with honest, intelligent, reasonable assessment of the situation and listening to the customer rather than making up renditions of what the customer is saying and being an arrogant jackass and insisting he know more than someone who was present during the accident.

So, then, why the rebuttal?  Are your listening and reasoning skills as poor as this interviewer and his manager?

Really.  When someone speaks of the effects of pests on apricots, do you answer with an analysis of how motorcycles corner in the rain?

I know I'm being a bit hard here, but I paid for insurance from a company I assumed knew how to handle situations related to what they were covering.  I was obviously not at fault in this accident.  I don't see why this interviewer was bent on twisting my words to fit his preconceived notions rather than listening with integrity and an engaged brain to someone who was actually there and saw what happened.

Really, this butthead and his incompetent manager had absolutely no active listening skills at all.  They were the kind of people who would tell you they understood what you said rather than repeating what you said and asking if they understood you correctly.  They came to conclusions and shaped your words to fit their agenda and preconceived notions.  They were absolutely resistant to knowing what actually happened.  And like the arrogant jacka**es they were, they insisted they were right and I was wrong.

I found that offensive.  Now, they can buy or sell parts in any manner and I may approve or disapprove of that.  But, it has nothing to do with what caused my disappointment.

What bothered me is they did not listen.

And apparently neither do you.

Used parts

AUTHOR: Employee - ()

POSTED: Thursday, April 24, 2014

If you read your policy all the way through, you will notice an item that says aftermarket parts can be used.  No insurance company will put new parts on a used car. Body shops like to as it increases their profits.

From your complaint, it sound like the body shop did shoddy work.  I suggest you write a letter to the State Insurance Department and to the local Better Business Bureau (for the body shop).

Keep in mind that there are essentially 3 tyepes of car parts: New, Used and Aftermarket. Aftermarket parts are NOT used. They are simply made by someone other than the manufacturer of the vehicle. Indeed, many car parts for NEW cars are not made by Ford, GM, etc. they are made by someone else. If you need say spark plugs for your car, you get AC Delco or some such. Are THEY used parts? Of course not. But Ford, etc., do not make them. That does NOT make them inferior.
