I now regretfully purchased a 2006 Chevy Colorado LS I4 in the fall of
2005 for over $24,000. Since then I have had to pay for several major
repairs even before the vehicle was completely paid for. The charges
include:
10/31/09 - Diagnosed/Replaced the Evap Vent Solenoid: $414.77 Check engine light came back on after less than 1 year.
8/15/10 - Replaced the 7 year battery after barely 5 years of use in the mid-Atlantic area $114.00
12/15/10 - 12/24/10 Diagnosed/Replaced the cracked Air Cleaner Resonator: $250.79 The check engine light returned immediately. This part had to be ordered from GM because it was not available locally due to it not being a common problem.
12/24/10 - Received a quote to replace the air intake manifold gasket from a local garage: $580 excluding tax
1/08/11 - Received a quote to replace the air intake manifold gasket
from a Chevy garage: Diagnostic fee $99. $625 parts and labor excluding
tax. GM would not extend warranty to correct problem.
The decision to purchase this vehicle was one of the worst
I've made in my life. I traded in a Nissan Frontier with 120,000 for
this truck and never even had to replace the brakes. Please be advised about
the poor quality of GM vehicles for any future purchases. My friends
and family have already heard about these issues. I will not be buying
any GM products going forward. It's amazing that our tax dollars went to bailout a company that produces such poor quality products. We should have let them go out of business instead!

Feel free to send a testimonial about your GMC truck to the Federal Reserve, since they are ultimately in control of General Motors.
You can 'Google' this- WHO OWNS THE FED?, and go to the site with the five charts in order to see that General Motors is listed in 'Chart 3'.
Have a great weekend!

..and all I found was some really, really, really, lousy bad poetry from some lunatic who goes by the name of "Karl" on this website. Sorry, hope my reply was not offensive to anyone. I was simply stating my honest opinion based on what was discovered when I went to the report number as suggested on this website.

*Make sure to 'Google' this- WHO OWNS THE FED?, and go to the site with the 5 charts and pay attention to who is listed in 'Chart 3'. It appears that General Motors and Chrysler Corp. are both linked to the Federal Reserve, right?
FACT: General Motors and Chrysler Corp. were collapsing in 2008 and had to file for bankruptcy to prevent a complete collapse. Each company required billions of dollars in taxpayer's money (TARP) to stay afloat.
WELCOME TO GM & CHRYSLER- PART OF THE FAILED SYSTEM KNOWN AS THE FED

I have had my GMC 2000 Sierra 3500 for 9 years - bought is used at 2 years old with 27,000 miles on it. I now have over 122,000 miles and have no problems but your basic problems ie: battery, brakes, tires etc etc.
This is the best GM truck I have ever had because I KEEP up the regular maintenance! Don't bash GM because you have had problems. I have had 8 GM cars/trucks all my driving years and would not buy anything else. Get over it -
Want bad quality? Buy a Pinto.

in order to prevent a complete collapse of both corporations. General Motors and Chrysler Corp. are both linked to the Federal Reserve, according to information on the web.
*Anyone can 'Google' this- WHO OWNS THE FED?, and go to the site with the 5 charts and see that both General Motors and Chrysler Corp. appear in 'Chart 3'.
There are other companies listed in those charts that received billions of dollars from the TARP, like General Electric, right?
Wachovia Corporation is also listed in 'Chart 3'. I believe that they were in big trouble and were bought by Wells Fargo, correct?
Thank You

I just want to share something about my current U.S. made truck...
I purchased a NEW 2002 F-150, 4.6 L., supercab, 4X4, tow package, and sport package in July 2002. According to the inside door frame sticker it came off the assembly line in April of 2002.
I currently have over 94,000 miles on the truck and have been driving it daily(occassionally towing a 3000 lbs. boat to the Adirondacks and back) since 2002.
Yesterday, we had MINUS 8 degrees F. My truck started and ran fine.
Now to my point. My truck has the ORIGINAL battery from the Ford assembly line. Also, the A/C is fine and is original equipment with the ORIGINAL refridgerant.

"Advice: Don't be so cheap. ALWAYS buy the aftermarket extended warranty. I always do this and have no regrets."
I can't believe I'm reading this on what is supposed to be a consumer protection site.
Third party auto warranties are complete ripoffs. Their contracts are full of endless loopholes that allow the companies to avoid paying for anything major. They're popular with dealers because they're a pure profit sale. When a dealer sells you one of these ripoffs for $2000, they take about $700 right off the top in commission.
I suggest anyone use the search feature on this site and peruse the "Auto Warranty" section of this website. It's no coincidence that all of the complaints are similar. All of these companies operate the same way.

Time for some education, and a reality check here!
AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Are you kidding me?????????
According to your own post, you went approximately 4 years before you had your first problem. AND, there is no relationship at all between the warranty and the fact that you are still paying on the vehicle.
And, that problem was MINOR.
Now my favorite part! A "7 Year Battery"? There is no such thing, regardless of what the label says. AND, GM does not make batteries! So how is this GM's problem? And, how is $114 for a new battery a rip off? You got 5 years out of that battery! The NORMAL replacement interval on batteries is 3 years, so yours lasted 2 years longer than what is expected.
Here is the reality for you. Your new vehicle was problem free for the first 4 years, then in the 5th year you had some MINOR problems.
WHY would you go to a dealership for NON-Warranty repairs? You can get the same repair done at an independent shop for half the price in many cases.
And, you never mentioned how many miles you put on that vehicle in these 5+ years either. This is very important.
Advice: Don't be so cheap. ALWAYS buy the aftermarket extended warranty. I always do this and have no regrets.
No rip off here. Both GM and the dealership obviously honored whatever warranties were in place. And, nobody forced you to get repairs at the dealership. That was your choice.
As each year goes on, vehicles get more complex, meaning more things will break sooner and be more costly to fix. Thank the EPA for that. They are imposing higher emissions and MPG standards on these carmakers every year. You cannot compare an older vehicle with a new vehicle. Apples and oranges comparison.

GM Also refuses to Honor Warranties!

I agree with you wholeheartedly about GM producing poor quality vehicles. I bouth a 2009 cobalt in Jan of 2009 and already it has been in a chevroletdealership for repair. The dealership did not even do a thorough inspection and instead tried to charge me over 1,000 cash out of my pocket! I have a so called 'bumper to bumper' warranty but that means diddly squat. Also, Giraldo at customer service for GM told me flat out that GM was not going to offer me any assistance with my situation. Basically, they got my money, and I'm on my own-without any warranty to rely on, even though I bought the car brand new. I wish the government let them go under instead of allowing them to stay afloat and pump out wothless junk that breaks down on people. The next car I buy will be Japanese or German, even if I have to pay extra. I'd rather have a car I can rely on.
