I received a letter stating that I was a winner in the second category of a Compensation Lottery Draw. The amount totaled $280,000.00. There was a check in the amount $5200.00. They requested $2900.00 for the "Non Resident Government Service Fee" that could only be sent through Money Gram or Western Union.
As with others that have reported these worms, there was a claims agent...yes, you got it...Mr. Henry Kennedy at the number above. My fee agent, the person to whom I was supposed to send my $2900 to, is Julie Johnson @ 526 Edmonton Drive, Toronto, Ontario, Canada V4C7B2. The letter was signed by Harry Newman, Promotions Manager.
Thank God for the internet! A decade ago, before the average household had a PC and acess to the web...these evil people could have gotten away with this just using the postal service. Immediately when I looked at that check, I was almost taken by the apparent authentic look of it; however, instinctively, I went to the net to look up the company.
Even if you want to believe this, several red flags come up during the conversation with Kennedy or whoever the claims agents is. He kept asking me if I knew how to use Western Union or Money Gram services, even going as far as suggesting that I go to Wal-mart because they have Money Gram. He explained the wiring process to me to make sure I understand how to use it.
The next red flag was that Kennedy requested that I not tell anyone about it. His statement, "This a lot of money. You don't want people involved." Well, hello...if I win the lottery or come into "miracle" money (legitimately); I want to share that with those close to me. Who was he to suggest that? I thought that was kind of strange.
I am so glad I was not a victim. However; unfortunately, until these people drop dead, somebody will be victimized. I too am going to my local newspapers and endeavor to have this letter printed as a warning. Everyone has access to mail; many households don't have access to internet and can not follow up with research. This letter could go to your mother, grandmother, or elderly relative.
May these people experience the wrath of the God of judgement!!!
