I find it interesting that this company sell tickets to minor children without parental supervision. If a child decides to 'Runaway' (a crime in many locations), all they have to do is go to the local Greyhound station and buy at ticket. If it is one going to meet a molester (another criminal act), they again will sell the ticket. It seems that they are facilitating a crime.

Then again selling a ticket is essentially enterring into a contract for serves. Now where can a minor enter into a contract without parental consent? It seems that they are placing themselves in a situation in which they can be sued by someone.

Any lawyers want to weigh in on this concept? Then when you catch your child running away, you go to get the ticket refunded and they give excuses that they don't have the money available to give the refund. The first clerk stated that he should have enough money at about 7 pm after they sell some tickets, the original tickets were purchased the same day, and call back then.

Call back at 6:45 pm and find that a new clerk is on duty and the other went off duty at 5 pm. And you guessed it, the new clerk does not have the money to refund the ticket either. Maybe someone from Greyhound can explain this and their ticketing policies that seem to facilitate criminal acts.

Under 12 y.o. children need a signed parent form to travel

AUTHOR: Jeff - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, November 21, 2004

I used to work at the bus depot. In Quebec, no ticket are issued to under 12 children without a form signed by a parent. It states who are responsable for the child, who will pick him up at destination. Also, children are not left alone. They have to sit on the first row (front) seats where the driver could watch them and they stay with him as long the parent or adult has not signed the form to take authority on him. Also, the free ticket thing to bring runaways home (operation go home) is true.

If I had saw a 13 or 14 y.o. kid trying to buy a ticket for somewhere 2000 miles from here, I would suspecious, but I won't give problem to any 16 or 17 y.o student going back to school after a weekend to his parent place, just because one of these 1000 customers had argued too much with his parents last night.

We're responsable, but there's a line where we can't take responsability for the parents or anyone else.

re Runways

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 28, 2004

also Remember that Greyhound offers runways
free bus service to return home
(the runway who wants to come home) can contact
the Iam lost number or the local police agency
to confim that person is a runway)
and they make arragements with Greyhound
[this option was started by trailways at one time
and local police]

Parents responsibility

AUTHOR: Jimmie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 28, 2004

I took offense to the letter about selling tickets to minors, mainly because it is not our fault people no longer raise their kids properly. Everyday as a driver I deal with people who have the parenting skills of a cactus. For your information if a child appears with a ticket there are always suspicions that arise such as the way they look (age) and more importantly the fact they are traveling long distances wit little or no luggage. So rest assured we drivers are quick to alert authorities when such situations arise. So Please raise and treat them right at home and chances are when they travel Greyhound it will be for the right reasons
