May God Bless You,

On the 18th of December, 2003, I went into Haynes Furniture Store just before closing. Looked around a bit, then searched for a Salesperson. A group of Salespeople were sitting around talking and a Ms. Mija Moschler, chose to help. After pointing out to her what my desire was, it was written up and after getting a discount, went to the desk to finalize the sale. We gave a hundred ($100.00) cash deposit in hand, the papers were signed and mentioned to them that I would be back in the morning, the 19th of December, 2003 with a check for the balance of the bill, and that the furniture date of delivery would be on the 24th of the same month.

On the morning of the 19th, I returned with a check(4242)in hand, presented it to the lady in the office, she pulled up my account #104CFM719, posted the check, printed out the Sales Order, all was in order, zero balance and everything was peaceful.

After returning to the office and running a check on the account that the money was to be drawn from, I decided that it would place my account in the red. I called Haynes, spoke with them about my discovery and asked if they would just cancel the order. Then the run around began. "Well you have to speak to this person", finally reaching someone in authority, I was told no problem, we will take care of it.

The day before delivery, Haynes calls asking for directions to the home of delivery. They were told that the order had been cancled and that was not a problem with them, but it was a concern for me. We had canceled this order on the 19th and now five(5) days later, I get a call from the delivery person. Someone has dropped the ball on this.

I called, and was pasted from this person to that person, finally reaching one of the people who had heard of the cancelation. "well you must talk to our headquarters in Va. Beach, Va., so off to Va. Beach, Va. I am transfered. "Well we will have to wait, for your check bounced, and that has costed us money", no, I canceled the order on the 19th, and I see where you posted the check to my account on the 24th, it cleared, therefore I would like to have my money returned to me. "Well we will have to let you know", and that was the last I heard from Haynes Furniture Store, The Headquarters, Va. Beach, Va.

They have my money,$1560.11 in a check, one-hundred ($100.00)cash in hand, and their furniture. My question is, how do they stay in busiess, ripping people off like this???

What not to do.

First of all never go into a store just before closing. it is the busiest time of day for the staff, because of all the closing responsibilities. Its not like they just cut the lights off and leave. It could also, as in this case, create problems such as errors in processing invoices. Not to mention how rude it is to shop right at closing, its like going to a restaurant and ordering a meal a few minutes before it closes. For God sakes they are tired and ready to go home.
Second of all, check your account balance BEFORE spending that amount of money. HELLO!
