Purchased an all in one Fax-Copier-Printer-Scanner in March 2008. Have had nothing but problems with it and required several calls to customer service for over the phone repairs, consuming many hours of time and frustration. The biggest problem with this machine occurred in October of 2008. The copier continued to print a horizontal line down the center of the page. Hours of communications with HP failed to fixed the problem. Ultimately, they opted to ship me out a replacement printer to correct the condition.
Now, 8 months later, the new printer is experiencing the exact same problem. Only this time, a call to HP confirmed that the printer's warranty was out by 79 days! I explained that this printer was not operated by me for a year, as it was a replacement for the the first one that could not be fixed. I also mentioned that this is obviously a manufacturer's defect as since this printer has the same exact recurring problem as the first one. They were quick to apogoize and claim there was nothing they could do. The only option was that I could pay for online support in the hopes of trying to correct the issue at a cost of $35.00.
I thanked the custoemr service rep but declined HP's generous offer. Instead I told her that I would put the $35.00 toward a new printer of a different manufacturer, as I have further use in the faith or the quality and reputation of HP any further, just as they obviously have no use for me as a consumer once my warranty expired, even though this is arguably the result of shoddy workmanship.
I will never ever continue to support a manufacturer or prodcut that continously sells shoddy products and offers shoddy support and casts consumers off as irrelevant once their warranty exprires, especially with a recurring defect. Sooner or later, these corporate idiots will eventualy cast off their very last customer , and will soon learn that they have also cast off their recurring customers and their corporate futures.

You did not say what the "problems" were but you did say you were getting a horizontal line down the center of the page. I think you meant a vertical line. By your problem description, I am safe to assume you have a laser printer and not an inkjet. You did not to to replace your toner cartridge. You could have purchased a generic compatible cartridge instead of buying an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) HP cartridge. When I used to do PC support, I saw vertical lines down the the page all the time, you need a new toner cartridge.
Being out of warranty by 79 days is not HP's problem. Mechanical devices such as laser printers and automobiles break down.
