Our story begins June 9, 2004. We signed the contract to put a pool on our property. We had experienced pool building before and understood most of the proceedure. We also went with the assumption that due to 0 negative remarks on this company there would be no problem.

We closed our loan on July 3, 2004....ready to go!! Was told the permits were waiting to be signed.. and we would break ground. We had done our footwork!!

July 16, 2004. Hobert Digs hole. Now, you asking why did it take 2 weeks to dig? Well, Hobert DID NOT turn the permit paperwork in til July 9, 2004. And we were told that everything was done.

July 17, 2004...Sprinkler system does not work through yard and was not capped. Also, back of fence was taken out and NO safety fence was placed. I had to call 4 times to get Hobert to come out and place fence... worried about insurance!!

July 19, 2004. I call sales person and ask why the sprinkler system was not capped? I then ask them when they will be getting this done? They tell me that it is MY responsibility, referring to contract. I asked them for clarification. They tell me that my responsibility includes Sewer & Underground Utility Rerouting. I then notified them that a sprinkler system is not an Underground Utility!! They disagreed and told us that the contract was legit.

July 20 - 22, 2004, We ask several people within the organization what the definition of "Underground Utility" is? They inform us that this is NOT the first time for this issue to come up!!! We ask them why hasn't the contract been changed? We are they allowing this to be an issue. Clarification would resolve any dispute. July 22, 2004, we ask to speak to the owner, Mr. Hobert. We tell him via message that we are prepared to get a lawyer and file a complaint. He calls later in the afternoon. Tells my wife that he will walk away over $750 to reroute the sprinkler system. We have til July 23, 2004 to decide to resume the build.

July 23, 2004, given the choices and talking with other pool companies we have no choice to remain with Hobert to the end of the build. In talking with the several people inside Hobert, they are embarassed and ashamed that this has happened. They have also told us that they get into trouble over this all the time and that people don't like the verbage in the contract. It is unclear!!!

Mr Hobert, change that contract. Stand behind your staff and make pools the way your supposed to!! You got rich off of making good pools...You may not need the money, but the ones working for you would like to get paid!! Remember that when you knock on people's doors to buy a pool. (of course, not you personnally)

Well, it is Sept 1, 2004!! We got the pool completed last week.

We officially began this process on June 9, 2004 and 80 days later, whammo!! Is that great building or what?? I am being completely sarcastic of course.

We discussed some options about completing with another builder, but knew we had no choice in the end. So we continued out build.

This last month has been hazy with everything but I will summarize.

Jon was our supervisor, and we really got responses from him. But in the last 3 weeks of the build, he was moved to another area!! Not sure if it has something to do with the other reports, but interesting non the less.

3 points that I would like to make.
1. Schedules....Hobert would NEVER keep their end of the schedule. Linda would call to tell us something was going to happen and when, they didn't show. We got very used to this. We had to continually call on Linda to see when and where they would be next.

2. Sprinkler system reroute. We were quoted $750 to have this reinstalled and rerouted by a "HOBERT" contractor. He works with them on all their yards. He informed me when I called him that this was an excellent deal and that we were getting a price break. We called the Blue Haven guy (the one we tried to see about finishing the pool) and asked him if he had a sprinkler guy. We got a call the next day and was quoted $450 to do the same job!! So much for a "HOBERT" discount.

3. Payment....WE all know that payments are split into 4 checks. We had to call them and ask where they wanted us to put the gunite check. This was a week after the gunite was done. 3 days prior to plaster, Linda calls me and tells us we have to pay them before they finish (in the contract) I explained to her that the financing contract specifies that we have 30 days from completion to pay. Evidently, this isn't so!! So we payed, and they came.

Finally, we had to have additional electrical work done. When they came out to turn on the pool (full of water). The system didn't come on!! Found out, they didn't finish the job. Another "HOBERT" contractor!!

Also, in hindsite, Hobert's sales team is in much need of some training. On several occasions I was informing the sales guy about his equipment!! Also, I would like to give some kuddos to Mitch at Blue Haven Pools (Mgr) he has been on the phone and very helpful during this process. He has been forthcoming with information and our choices!! Very upfront and I commend him for this. If we build another pool, Blue Haven would get this business.

I would love to talk to anyone that would like a referral for Hobert. We are very open and honest about this.

If you were able to resolve the problems, how has it been since the pool is finished?

AUTHOR: Elizabeth - (U.S.A.)

Jennifer,
Were you able to have your pool completed? As you can see from what I've posted on this site, we have had multiple problems with Hobert. How did you finally resolve it? If you were able to resolve the problems, how has it been since the pool is finished? Are there any new problems? We are still waiting for answers from Mr. Hobert Murphy and cannot believe the incredibly poor construction and service. If you have any suggestions, we'd appreciate it.
