I had a credit card from home depot. I paid them out in full and then I got a notice I owned them $35.00 I paid the $35.00 and the next month another notice and they were paid and then the next month 35.00 and I paid them when the 4th notice came I called them and I had the canceled checks in my hand, They told me if I dont pay them I will be placed into collection. which they did.

The other day I was searching for unclaimed moneys and here are 3 $35.00 refunds Homedepot owed me. I had cut up my homedepot card and I didnt know the account number. They wanted my old telephone number which I didnt remember then they wanted my Social Security Number which I refused to give them But they managed to find me. Home depot told me I was sent into collection but didnt have the name of the collection agency but was going to give me their number so I could call.

I applied for the unclaimed but they take a percentage out for adminstration fees. I was charged interest when paying home depot so I am penalized not once but several times and Home depot tarnished my credit.

You should not be charged...

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

Just so you know that if you are being charged an "administrative fee" it is very unlikely that you are dealing with the State but a 3rd party company that is charging you for something you can do for free.

If you have already submitted the claim to this other company it is probably too late.  However, if you haven't submited it search for things such as "Unclaimed funds (enter state)".  Make sure you are dealing with the actual state department that handles it.  A good way to tell if you are with the actual State agency or a 3rd party is if the site you are on gives you the option to search for other states, you are probably not with the offical state office.

Just one other thing.  The one thing you failed to mention is if you thought you had paid it off, what did they say when you called them about the bill you received the first time?  How about the second time?  What about the third time?  Are you in the habbit of paying just because someone says that you need to pay because they said so?
