HomEq Servicing Corporation Home insurance ripoff Jacksonville Florida

Hi, my problem isn't as bad as most of the one's I've read here. I got a letter in the mail today, stating I owe $28 to an Empire Fire and Marine Insurance Company for insurance HomeEq placed on my property for me (also, I was never informed that this coverage was placed to begin with).

The coverage dates are for April 14th 2005-April 28th 2005. I bought this house in April 2004, the loan was sold to HomEq last fall, and my home insurance policy was for April 28th 2004-April 28th 2005. My renewal policy was due by April 28th, 2005 and I paid this premium in person to my insurance agent on April 27th, 2005. There was a lapse in coverage.

I don't understamd where HomEq is getting they had to cover me for that April 14th-April28th time period since I had full coverage in effect the entire time already. It states if I don't pay the $28 within 30 days they'll add it to my mortgage payment.

I know it's not a lot of money but its the point. Isn't this fraud? If they did this to me, how many other people are they don't this to and making extra money from it? Looked them up at the BBB and saw they've had some problems.
