The Honda Corporation failed to issue a recall for defective engine blocks in Honda Civics, thereby not having to inform the consumer of a serious issue. I recently purchased a 2008 Honda Civic LX from a private individual. Within 3 weeks after purchasing the vehicle the engine temperature began to rise beyond normal operating temperature. Added almost 3 quarts of coolant to radiator and attempted to locate source of the leak but could not locate leak while vehicle was idling in driveway for over 45 minutes.
Then i began to do some research online in an attempt to pinpoint the source of the coolant leak. During my research I came across Honda Technical Bulletin # 10-048. I then took the vehicle to my local Honda Service Department and instructed the service advisor to have the service department perform a coolant pressure test to locate source of coolant leak. Honda Service Department confirmed that the source of the leak was indeed hairline cracks on the exterior of the engine block but because the vehicle's original purchase date was 5 months past the 10 waranty extension that Honda America refused to replace their defective engine block. Very dissappointed with the response from such a highly regarded automobile manufacturer.

Honda is Responsible for the defect

Royce Royce or not, that is not the correct presepctive to apply to this problem or the correct reasoning to find a way for Honda to meazle out of the problem.
The fact is such a problem cannot be pro-actively broadcaseted to Honda owners; since as you mentioned the car changes hands. If the manufacturer has a way to ensure all owners are informed they bought a defective -manufactured defective prodcut, and those owners decide to opt-out of repair, then only then can Honda be absolved of their responsibility. However, the consumer buys a product, regardless of make, in the faith that major components in a acapital purchase like a car will last a life time- in this case, common consesus for a Honda car~200k or some range close to that, barring known bad service, neglect or other damage not related. However, when the problem is so clearly identified to the manufacturer known defect then, it should be repaired. especially when the product (as seen by the contless consumers who reported it) is only at half the life it should have lasted.
For the injured consumer, Please call me (((REDACTED))), or email me: hsabha@yahoo.com, I would like to join as many consumers as possible to take legel action against Honda and correct this injustice.

Did you get it checked by an independent mechanic who then would have had the information??

I don't know whether your issue actually comes from Honda.
You said that you bought the car from "an individual" which is NOT a dealer. So please answer me how Honda knows that the car was transferred to you? Also, the car is 10 years old. Why would you be expecting that the manufacturer will give a life time guarantee on a car, especially this is not Rolls Royce or any elite expensive car?
I don't see that Honda needs or obligates to warrant their products that have been passed on to multiple hands. If you are making a report of a new car (not used) from them and they don't fix the problem, then I would agree with you. On a used car and from an individual? That is a real problem.
