So, I have been a Hughes net sucker for several years now as my alternative is dial up. I run a small business out of my home and need the extra "speed" they supposedly provide. Well my latest gripe with Hughes (and yes I have many) occurred today when I called to pay my bill.

I spoke with the typical bad english speaking indian boiler room representitive who told me my balance and so I paid it.....or so I had thought. Keep in mind I was a week late on my payment becuase they were a week late on my invoice. I then go to work online and keep being re-directed to hughes net to pay. Frustrated I called back and got another glowing represenitive of Huges customer service at its best. She told me that because my account was past due???!!! I needed to pay the balance in full. I already pay 70 a month and was told I needed to pay 140 more??!!! From my knowledge I owed 70 due on May 19th. I argued that fact and tried reason which was a lost cause. I asked for a supervisor and thats when she hung up on me. It took 15, yes 15 calls back to get a supervisor who finally cleared things up, but I still had to pay my balance in full. Grrrrrr.

So once that was paid she told me it would take four hours for my service to be re-instated. I told her that was unnaceptable as it was not even marked for suspention and proceeded to notify her that I expected it up within the hour or I would call back ever 15 minutes until it was. Just when I though they could't be ruder, well they were. She actually yelled at me and said if I didn't like the time frame she could make it lpnger. Whaaaa????? Um.......I have been off contract for a year I don't think that was a smart thing on their part. Long story short, I told her if it wasn't back on within the hour I would call the FCC and the PUC which I have :) doubt they will help but cross your fingers right. I also told her I was going to record all calls to Hughes net from now on for my records. She told me that they would terminate my account if I record their calls becuase it creates a security issue. More like a quality control issue.

The bottom line is if you like bad browsing speed and overpriced unreliable service get Hughes net. Otherwise do what I am doing now - Leave hughes becuase between mysterious new Fair access poicices and price hikes, rude service, and threats of deactivation for excercising my right to monitor my own conversations I have had more than enough. I hope and pray that someone out there will stop them. They have no business doing business in my opinion.
