We should have investigated this company more thoroughly before engaging. Their program is based on capturing your money, not improving your childs test scores. We engaged in a 12 week program and paid for the first six weeks ($1100) that was reported to increase the average students SAT score by over 200 points. My son attended all the sessions and completed all the homework, and then took a practice SAT after the first six weeks, and actually scored lower than when we started. He is a 3.5 GPA rising senior and takes honors level course work. He was struggling to test at his expected level, and we were sold by HLC that their "techniques" for SAT/ACT test improvement are not taught in schools. The program is a scam. The "teachers" are unqualified, and the manager/owner was completely disengaged. They will not discuss test results over the phone, as they are trained to get you on their "home turf" so they can pressure you (in front of your kids) to continue with more paid services that don't work. Do not give this company any of your money.

#1 UPDATE Employee
HLC is effective for most, but not all
AUTHOR: FloridaGuy - ()

I read a report about the Tampa, Florida Huntington Learning Center that was posted in 2011. While that is in the past, lasting damage can, has, and will be done from the negative posting. I just want to help shed some light on this matter with a little inside insight.
The goals that are set for SAT/ACT test score increases are agressive. Why? Huntington of course makes money from the parents of the student, but thier reputation can only increase with superior performance. Likewise, bad performances can have a detrimental effect on the reputation of the business.
The report complained of the student not doing well on the practice test, and that the scores could not be talked about over the phone. This is not a tactic, it is professionalism. Anyone could call and ask for test scores. There are many students who come to HLC and thier information needs to be protected. The best policy is then to talk about the scores, new goals, and plans of action in privacy.
I don't work in the office. I am a tutor. I have a degree in English, Philosophy and I have attended law school. I don't work many hours, but when I do, I do so out of my love of helping student reach thier goals by getting into the colleges of thier choice. In my experience, every student who I have tutored has succeeded. Not becuase of me, but becuase of how well they took to the tactics of test taking and polishing existing skills in order to perform superbly on the test(s).
The second test can show a drop in scores. This is not becuase of any shortcoming of the student, tutor, or the management team. It could (and most likely is) be that the foundational skills that are being taught are indeed learned, but are not being fully utilized by that time. It is usually between 5 and 6 two hour sessions depending on the hours spent tutoring that dictates when the practice tests are given. Twelve hours of instruction can help quite a bit, but it is only the first part of instruction. Artists learning a new style of painting do not master that new form of expression in a mere 12 hours unless they are naturally talented.
Parents are heavily invested both monetarily and emotionally where thier children are concerned. I applaud that, I am a parent too. Please realize that your child might take more time to master the material, just like everyone else.
For those that are considering Huntington Learning Center please be advised that the staff is qaulified to teach the material that is utilized. There is a high standard of SAT/ACT scores are are required to even teach the test prep material. Subject tutoring is also a strong point of HLC as well as skill enhancement, study skills and tactics and self esteem growth.
The saying, "The roots of learning are bitter, but the fruits are sweet" rings true in this case. The emotional turmoil of tutoring/learning can be extensive and bitter indeed, but the rewards are worth it for the children, the parents, and on a very special level of personal fulfilment for the tutors.
