I recently found out from my credit report that I owed this collections company money for a past due account. I have never received correspondence from this company, so I called and requested a letter of some sort so I can send them a payment. The amount I owe is $464.89. I have the money to pay them, which is why I called for the information.

When I reached the company I spoke with a Marquis, he was helpful and I even volunteered my current info before he asked for it since I want to get this resolved. He said he could not fax a statement over to me and put me on hold.

At that point his floor supervisor, Christy, was put on the phone. I told her the situation and that I would pay the account once I have a statement of some sort to file in my own records. She said she would not send out a statement and that if I did not pay this moment she would mark my account as refusal to pay and persue further action against me. I calmly corrected her by saying once again, I will pay the moment I have something in writing from you, and if you faxed it over to me today I would mail the payment in today.

I explained I don't have a credit card she could charge or someone else who is willing to let me use their card for this purpose and that I don't want to send a payment in without something in writing. She became VERY rude with me, said she wouldnt mail it and that my account has been forwarded to take further action because of my refusal to pay and HUNG UP.

Now I'm angry. I call back, they hang up. I call again and speak with a Dawn, with whom I gave my account number too and requested to speak with a manager. She said she would transfer me to a manager but most likely I wouldnt be able to speak with one and would have to leave a message (and she spoke in a very condescending tone as well). I have never heard of not being able to speak to a manager.

This is clearly a case of the people involved in my phone calls not wanting their manager to hear about my claims against the reps. I left a message on the machine stating that if a manager doesn't call me by 3pm I would contact the BBB, the Attorney General of Minnesota, Virginia (the state the past due balance originated from), and New York (the state where I currently live). No word yet.
