I received a call from Infomatika Publications back in July. They asked me to confirm my contact information, and then said we would receive a complimentary business listing. I told them that we didn't wish to purchase anything, and was reassured that the business listing was complimentary.

Next thing I know, we receive a large box, and an invoice for $350. I immediately called the company, and only reached voice mail boxes. I left well over a dozen phone messages, emails, and faxes and no one returned my calls.

I then received a threatening phone call and invoice, and was told to make payment immediately. I had already returned the volume and had verification that it had been received. I called their debt collector, Victoria, and was again threatened. She told me that I had better find a lawyer because we were responsible for payment.

I have since filed complaint with the Attorney General's office, and have received more threatening calls. Last time, I told Victoria that I was well award of their scandalous business-and how they manipulate taped phone conversations. Of course she denied everything. I told her our lawyer would be contacting her soon, and they would not receive any payment. Why doesn't the state of New York shut them down?

Thanks to each of you that have filed a report. It is reassuring to know that others are taking action against these cronies.

these companies just keep changing names

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 21, 2003

Dear Leah,

As you read through the reports you will learn that these companies just keep changing names (and location for the 'mail drop'). That is why the authorities have a difficult task trying to prosecute them.

Eventually guys like Michael Mouyal (International Business Directories) and Pavlos Angelatos (World Wide Source, Ameri-source, American Solutions Information, and It Data Direct) do get nailed for something. The problem is they've actually moved their efforts to some new scam 'entity' so you are only able to shut down the old version.

Once you recognize the pattern, however, you can effectively tell the scammers (by whatever name they are using) to get lost.
