have been with Ipower web for about 5 years.The first 3 1/2 years were pretty good. No problems,great customer service, no wait time etc.

Shoddy Service Begins

THEN the last 2 and half years had seen a steady decline in their service. My site was down constantly, 74 mintues on phone hold , 45 mintues on Live chat Hold, then the reps really didnt know what they were doing . I had a trouble ticket I opened back in November that closed mysteriously on its own twice. I made a new one in Jan of this year (2008 ) that to this day had been resolved and it was something very very simple.

The new cpanel is HORRIBLE. it make everything messy and seems like it was made by 3 year olds.Plus now you have to PAY for webalizer. They started their latest "migration to new servers" back in Nov of 2007. How long are they going to keep using that as an excuse for SHODDY service?Plus I just love all those bogus sites that list them as a top 10 choice and all those number 10 ratings.It must be Ipower employees pretending to be customers so they can give ipower a high rating. More unethical and low life business practices.

Leaving Ipower

So I decided this month to leave their service. I will detail safe steps at the end of this so what happened to me doesnt happen to you. I researched other hosts ,found one, bought a plan which was half the price and had better customer service. I downloaded all my files to my computer then asked how to cancel with ipower web .They bascially tried to give me a guilt trip about leaving. (From 3 different reps that I spoke to ) I was firm but polite.They have to cancel for you. Now this is where the BREACH OF CONTRACT COMES IN.

Breach of contract

I am paid up till the 7th of july. The rep told me he would not delete my account till July 13. That same day I went back to transfer my domain names as I realized I need EPP keys to do so or else my new registar would not be able to complete my request.. I got the EPP keys and started the request. A few days later my domains were LOCKED and my hosting account was DELETED by Ipower web. Yet I was paid up till next month. Nice huh?

So if I had not already backed up my files my entire websites (2) with about 5 years of content would have been lost. But I had a weird feeling about them and decided to be safe first.

Their response

I contacted them and they basically told me"Tough luck." The new rep was rude and uncaring. He had to manually unlock m y domain account from Tucows. So my transfer is hopefully going through. My site has been down for 3 whole days at this point.. I am just glad that my CC on file with them is expired already because I heard that they charge you sometime whe nyou leave.

Steps for leaving Ipower web.

1.- Dont wait till the last minitue give yourself at least a month before your contract ends with them.

2- Do research on other hosting services. BEWARE other service that seem like they might be Ipowerweb under other names or resllers of ipower web.

3-Buy your hosting plan.

4.-Download ALL your files to your computer from your website.

5-Upload them to your new hosting service.

6.- DO NOT TELL IPOWERWEB YOU ARE LEAVING THEM.

7.As for domain name transfer if you are registered domains with them . Ask for your "EPP KEYS" You need this code key to unlock your site. When they ask you why you are transferring domains tell them whatever but do not tell them you are leaving them because this brings on retailation.(They register names via TuCows.Tucows are domain name wholesalers they do not deal with the public therefor are NO HELP. I emailed them and have not heard a response back.)

8.Go to your new hosting site and find where you put in a transfer for your domain names and the place where you put in your EPP keys.They send you an email to your admin account email for you to approve then transfer. Approve the transfer then wait 7 days.

9.After your domains transfer comes in and your new site is up and pretty THEN you can kick Ipower web to the curb where the other trash belongs.You have to talk to a rep to cancel your account. You cannot cancel your acount from your Cpanel.

As for your financial data, if possible protect it. Try not to have an active Credit card number on file. If not have a chat with a rep online tellling them you dont want to be charged for another year and then save your transcript of that chat. (Choose "Close" option then it will ask you if you want to have a transcript of emailed to you,click yes)

You can leave Ipower web is just a big headache.
