I purchased a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am Gt from J.D. Byrider over a year and a half ago. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had 100,000 miles on it.

The engine no longer works 30,000 miles later. To top it all off, I still owe $5,700.00 for a car that is not running. I had the car towed to a repair shop (my warrenty w/J.D. had expired) and was told that a replacement engine would run around $3000.00 (???).

I informed CNAC aka J.D. Byrider about the car and was later made an offer about their Service Dpt repairing/rebuilding the engine.

I would have to give an additional $300 deposit for Service to start the job and the remaining $900.00 would be attached to my car loan????

That does not include me still making my regular payments (car note). I informed CNAC that I had to get a ride to work for the 1st week without a car and later I had to rent a car for almost 4 weeks.

I asked if J.D. would offer me a loaner until the car was fixed, the gentleman's response was that J.D. does not offer that option; but yet and still, you are expected to make payments on a car that does not run let alone that is worth the money that you are being charged for......

True value of the car

AUTHOR: Cris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 16, 2008

In the future to find a vehicle's worth go onto the Kelly Blue Book website and put in the information. They also list people in your specific area that are selling that car. In there it shows your car to be valued at about $3285. You may want to find out the value of a car before you buy your next car. You may also want to list your car in the paper disclaiming that it needs a new engine, so you will sell it for some set amount and try to get some of your money back. Good Luck!

Explain to me how you've been ripped off?

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 21, 2007

You purchased a 10 year old car with over 100,000 miles on it. At the time of purchase you agreed it was worth what you paid for it, as you decided to purchase it.

You put FAR more miles on it than the average person. Average mileage for 1.5 years would be approximately 18,000 miles, and you've put over 30,000. The engine is now blown and you say you've been ripped off. Please explain this.

You bought an old vehicle with high mileage and you put a lot more miles on it. The car is no longer under warranty. It is not the responsibility of J.D. Byrider to keep your vehicle in running condition for the life of the loan.

If you want certainty - buy an extended car warranty. It's YOUR fault, and only your fault that you are still making payments while dealing with a blown engine. You chose to buy this vehicle, and you put the miles on it. Now you must pay for a new engine and continue making your payments. That's how it works. If you want to put 30,000 miles on a car in a year and know that the engine will last, then buy a new car. In the end, it will cost you more than you're paying now.
