On September 16, 2009, my toilet "backed up". I had it replaced by a John Moore plumber at a cost of $497.00 with a 2 year guarentee for "parts and labor".

On November 22, 2010, my toilet again 'backed up', and I called John Moore. I explained to the person answering the phone what had happened, explaining that I did have a 2 year guarentee. The person looked it up and said that yes indeed, I did have a guarentee that covered this.

The next morning John Moore services called and scheduled a plumber to come to my home between 2-5 PM. Starting at noon, someone called from Jon Moore services 5 times (either the office or a plumber) until 4PM, always saying that "the next plumber available will be out", never saying anything about the guarentee.

At 4:45 PM (within the window) but why was I called so many times?, "David" arrived. After looking at the toilet, he said that my problem was NOT covered by the guarentee, that the guarentee only covered the toilet itself. He then proceeded to charge me another $49.00 to "unstop toilet with auger".

I WILL NEVER USE JOHN MOORE SERVICES AGAIN!!! If you do decide to use them, be sure you understand and approve their guarentee....it really is a RIP-OFF!!!!!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Warranty is just bait

AUTHOR: anonymous - (USA)

The plumbers are paid 100% commission regardless of whether something is warranty or not.  The employee that goes to your house is going to try and charge you money no matter what cause if he doesn't he does not make any money.  The "warranties" they offer are just to get you to initially buy the product and to keep you coming back to them because you think they will fix things at no charge.

Not a Ripoff!!!

I do not see this as being a rip-off.The plumber did not find anything wrong with the toilet. He just found a clog in the pipes. The 2 year guarantee is on the parts that were install and just labor on those parts.

At least the company was keeping you inform on when the plumber should be at your place. This is better than most companies. Why do you expect the plumber to unclog your pipes for free?
