Yesterday, September 25th of 2014, at 2:10 PM I went into a Texas branch of JP Morgan Chase Bank where I have a safe deposit box. It was mid-afternoon on a Thrusday, and business appeared VERY slow in this branch. There were 2 tellers working the counter when I entered, in addition to a man on a phone in one cubicle and a woman sitting in another cubicle with a person who may have been a bank client. Immediately upon entering the bank, I told one of the 2 tellers (who was unoccupied) that I needed to access my safe deposit box at that branch.
I was enroute to meet with my attorney for an appointment regarding estate planning, and I needed critical documents from my safe deposit box. The teller told me "You'll need to see a banker, so please wait for a moment." I really WAS inside a bank, so I supposed there MIGHT be "bankers" there? Or so I thought. After 6 minutes of waiting, I started pacing to make it obvious I was still waiting for "a banker." After 10 minutes, and with my attorney's appointment growing closer, I decided I'd had enough of Chase Bank's "customer service." At that time I said the following to the sole teller at the counter:
"My time is too valuable for this, so I'll come back some other day and perhaps I'll be able to access my safe deposit box on THAT day." I was polite but terse, so it would be obvious I was NOT happy with the total lack of service I was provided.
Within a half hour of departing that Chase Bank branch, I called the main Chase Bank branch in the nearest city (New Braunfels, Texas) and asked to speak to someone who could do anything about being denied reasonable access to my safe deposit box at the Highwat 46 Branch. I was given a phone number for some alleged Chase Bank official in San Antonio, Texas...about 35 miles away...who "...might be able to address my issue..." (per the Chase Bank rep). What a joke!
This is typical of everything I've experienced from JP Morgan Chasde Bank since I first became a client. In responses to slick solicitations FROM CHASE BANK, I applied 3 times to refinance a home already financed by them...but each time they played "bait & switch" games with me, upping initial low interest rates they'd quoted me to higher ones due to one alleged complication or another. After Chase Bank wasted 2 years of my time as they questioned whether I could re-fi a loan already with them on which EVERY SINGLE PAYMENT HAD BEEN MADE ON-TIME OR EARLY, and WITH ADDITIONAL PRINCIPAL ADDED TO EACH PAYMENT, I walked away from their nonsense games and quickly purchased another (SECOND) home through another lender.
As best I can tell from my association with JP Morgan Chase Bank, they're corporately incompetent and/or dishonest...or BOTH.
