Juniper Bank sent me a letter along with convenience checks offering 0% interest until January. So I took advantage of it. I must not have read the fine print. There was a $28.30 convenience check promotion fee for writing the check! In addition, as long as I made other purchases on the credit card, I had to pay the entire balance (including the amount of the convenience check) in full by the due date; otherwise, I would be charged interest.

When I called Juniper to discuss this, I was informed that they had no way of separating the convenience check transaction from the other transaction. So, the 0% interest offer is bogus! I asked what the interest rate would have been on the transaction for the first month--and I was informed $9.07. So I am spending $28.30 promotion fee to save $9.30!!!! I am incensed by this! I got no satisfaction in my conversation with the "customer relations" associate and her supervisor. I am cancelling my account with Juniper.

Credit Card Due Dates with Visa and Mastercard Accounts.

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

I must inform you that Juniper Bank carries only Visa and Mastercard branded accounts, and as per the agreement with Visa USA and it's counter-part Mastercard, credit card issuers cannot offer terms that indicate that you must pay off the balance in full every month.

At Juniper Bank, to offer you a Visa or Mastercard they MUST (unless your account has defaulted) offer you a monthly payment option, and Juniper has never had a balance transfer offer that required payment of the balance in full on the due date.

I also wanted to mention that the fee you incurred is not in fact a finance charge, it is a Balance Transfer/Convenience Check fee that is applicable to all account terms, so even if you did not have a promotional APR, then these fees would have been collected anyways. The standard BT/CC fee is 3% of the total amount, and usually $5 minumum, and $50 maximum.
