I live in the country, and my only internet option is Wildblue Satellite (unless I go back to dial-up, which I am not willing to do). I am allowed 10GB per month on the plan I have, with free up/downloads from midnight to 5am. It was imperative that all backups occurred between midnight and 5am. An extra GB is $10.95. My PC backups were in the 95GB range.
I chose JustCloud for two reasons. One, that I could schedule my backups. Two, they advertised an "anytime money back guarantee", neither of which turned out to be true.
I signed up for a 2-year backup plan with Just Cloud in May 2013. The first version of their software, 4.0.15, would not adhere to my backup schedule, which I had set at 12:05am to 4:59am, with a "pause" set at 5am till midnight. This was important because of my ISP does not meter my bandwidth between midnight and 5am.
Just Cloud’s backup software was running all different times of the day. I was exceeding my monthly bandwidth and it was costing me a small fortune to buy more from my ISP so my speed wasn’t cut down to dial-up speed.
After many emails, with many different people at JustCloud, it was determined that I was using an older version, and I upgraded to 4.0.16. That seemed to fix the problem, and I was finally a happy customer even though I incurred many fees from my ISP for over bandwidth usage, do to their software. Things seemed to be going smooth for a few months.
In September 2013 my PC hard drive crashed. I installed a new hard drive, got my computer up and running again, and went to Just Cloud to retrieve my files. I panicked. All of my folders seemed to be stored at Just Cloud, but when I tried to retrieve them, after midnight, zero files were retrieved. There were no files in my folders. Come to find out later, my files were stored in a different drive letter, and I finally found them. I do not know why some folders were empty, or how I even found my files.
I just kept digging. However I found it easier to use FTP to retrieve my files, as I could not figure out how to retrieve a drive or folder. Using their system I had to dig down and retrieve individual files, individual photos, etc. It would not allow me to download a drive or a folder. I had to download individual files. That’s when I fired up the FTP and did it that way. Their whole set-up sucks.
Also, after my hard drive crash, Just Cloud recognized my new hard drive as a new device. All of my old files, supposedly, were stored as PC1. My new hard drive was considered as PC2. I had to transfer my paid license from PC1 to PC2. I wanted all of my backed-up files listed under one device. More emails to several different people at Just Cloud determined that it was not possible to do that unless I retrieved all of the PC1 files and then backed them up again from PC2. Are there any more wrenches that could possibly be thrown into this scenario to make it any more confusing? Read on……..
Also, keep in mind that Just Cloud will charge you extra to back-up any external devices you have. I believe they wanted $79 to back-up my WD external hard drive. Good thing I had the WD. That is where I retrieved most of my files after the crash.
In October 2013 there was another software upgrade to version 4.0.18. The scheduled backups would no longer work. There was no rhyme or reason for the timing of the backups. It was worse than the first time. Some would run for a day, some for 22 hours, some for 28 minutes and stop. Morning, noon or night. I had no clue when, or for how long. I had to manually click on the “pause” button, hoping that it would stop until midnight so I would not exceed my satellite bandwidth. Many more emails, with many different people at Just Cloud, determined that I could not manually “stop” or “pause” an automatic back-up schedule, as that would throw it off. WTF?
Late October 2013 I gave up and subscribed to a different back-up company, which is working great. Since my JustCloud was cancelled, I kind-of forgot about them. I never changed the settings for the scheduled backups, and just left it as it was, midnight to 5am. Out of the blue, a month later, last week Just Cloud fires up and starts backing up my files again for hours and hours during the day when I’m not at my computer. Ching ching. What happened? What changed? I didn’t even open the program. I finally had to uninstall their software from my computer. It was just too unpredictable. I can still go to the on-line account to see my files. Whoopdeedo!
What are you supposed to do then? Nobody has any answers at Just Cloud. Each email is answered by a different person who doesn’t read the previous email conversation, so the customer is starting from scratch every time, with the same coined responses, the sending of screen shots, sending the error reports, and spending hours and hours trying to make their frickin program work.
Then to top it all off, be aware that once you sign up, you are set up to auto-renew. There is no place in your account settings to change this. There is also no place to remove your credit card information. I worry about this. Even though I received an email from Just Cloud stating that my account is now set up to not auto-renew, how do I really know that? These people should not have my credit card number. They are incompetent. If their database for credit card numbers and payment processing is anywhere near what their backup software is, we all have reason for great concern.
I requested cancellation of my account, all of my files deleted, and a refund. Just Cloud’s website, and almost every affiliate site I visited, states that there is an “anytime money back guarantee”. Please be aware that in Just Cloud’s fine print, the stuff that nobody reads, it states that they will refund your money only within 30 days. Yup, anytime. This is false advertising, which is against the law, and they need to be shut down. The only response I received about deleting my files was that they just suggested that I keep using my account until the end of the 2-year period. I guess there is no way to delete my files from their system. Huh? I want my stuff gone from their cloud, but can’t get them to answer.
I am furious with Just Cloud, not only for the additional fees I had to pay to my ISP because their software doesn’t work, or the extra time to figure out how to retrieve my files after my hard drive crashed, or the massive screen shots and emails I had to send to every named person under the sun at Just Cloud, I don’t like getting screwed like this. I work hard for the money I spend. I’ll be damned if I’m going to stay silent on this one. I have never experienced such poor product or service ever, and I intend to warn others. My biggest worry is that I cannot delete my files from their system, close my account, or remove my credit card information.
In reading other reviews and comments about JustCloud (after I purchased), I am not the only one who feels that this company needs to go away before they rip off more people. Help get the word out. Please go to BBB.org and file a complaint, and post as many comments as you can.
