This is about a 2013 395LEV Raptor Toy Hauler purchased in August of 2013.
The first inclination of problems occurred the first week of October 2013 when we heard a loud pop when turning a relatively sharp corner. After close inspection around the outside of the unit we could find nothing visibly wrong, but the next day when we got home we notice a flex in the kitchen floor that had not been there before. More on this later.
Two weeks later while driving down the highway a trucker motioned us to pull over and pointed at the rear of the unit. We found the front rear tire to have baseball sized baloons on inside and out. Now we find that a lot of people have had similar issues.
On December 7th 2013 a hydraulic line near the pump that controls the leveling system and slides burst. Technician that repaired found that it had been installed such that it was laying on a pump bolt and wore through. It took numerous phone calls and almost two months for Keystone to repay us for what was obviously a warranty issue.
January 6th 2014 the generator started shutting itself off shortly after being turned on. After many hours of our time wasted and going to 3 differrent Onan repair facilities the 3rd one finally found that again it was shoddy workmanship by Keystone in the panel wiring area that was allowing pressure on the generator switch to short out. After arguing with Keystone for hours we finally had to make payment out of our own pocket and several weeks later the dealership paid us back.
On January 20th 2014 a crossmember that holds all of the front to rear crossmembers supporting the fresh water tank popped loose while going down the highway and luckily didn't fall completely out and cause an accident. The crossmember was only surface welded which again is poor workmanship. Again we had to pay out of pocket because the local RV center won't work on Keystone warranty issues due to being stiffed before. Over a month later Keystone finally sounds like they are going to pay us back.
Now on the 21st of February an equalizer between the axels breaks and again we were lucky not to have had a life threatening accident since it seems to have happened going down the highway. This equalizer in effect keeps the axels attached to the frame.
After checking the wear patterns on the tires and talking to the service techs, as well as remembering a hole found in the rear black water drain pipe found at the time the hydraulic line burst, that we couldn't explain, and which has now been almost completely cut in half at that hole, by the part that finally gave way, it appears there has been a problem in this area for quite some time.
The spring hangers on the opposite end from the equalizer are bent inward and are of smaller thickness than the steel on my 16ft flat bed trailer.
Several of the tires have been damaged by this incidentand need replaced and Keystone, to be expected is refusing this as well.
Remember that loud pop and flexing floor at the beginning... well, in talking with the service manager we find out that there are other side to side crossmembers broken loose other than where the spring equalizer broke. Well now whe do not trust any of the structural welding
This latest incident could have very well caused a very serious accident leading to the death of us or others.
And again what is clearly a warranty issue has taken days of arguing with Keystone and it is still not fixed. The service center indicates it will take about 6 hours to repair. Keystone has continually looked for ways to not pay for any issue we have had. It is Wednesday and after finally agreeing to authorize the service center to fix our unit late Monday, and agreeing to overnight the parts on Tuesday, they did not arrive today. After talking with a very patronizing senior advisor who lied about the parts being shipped we were told that she is the only person we will be allowed to speak to.
It is clear from our experience and all of the other owners we have read about, not to mention the number of Better Business Bureau complaints, that Keystone is not reputable or trustworthy company to deal with. This report will be sent to the BBB as well
