King Ryan Events Definitely a scam, with people who only want your hard earned money! internet

I have to agree with people and say this is just another scam. My band mate found their ad online and thought it would be a good idea to sign up because there was going to be some sort of label "representative" at the event. I was skeptical because I wasn't born yesterday and know about b.s like this. But she really wanted to do it so I said why not, I just want to play somewhere.

So we got the contract and as soon as I read that we needed to sell tickets I was turned off by the event. But I thought hey let's see what this whole thing is about. 

Here are the issues:

First off the woman in charge of staying in contact with the artists was horrible at staying in touch, especially when we asked her about the backline. We had received an email stating that there would be a pro backline and we wanted to find out what kind of gear they had gotten for drums. It took her two weeks to get back to us only to say they were working on it, even though the show was only a few days away. The only thing she said was "we got mics" lol, really??

Turns out they never rented a backline for any instruments!! One of the bands there actually let everyone use their drum set, which was really rad of them, shout out to the guys at Contortion. So what happened to this backline they were going to get?? More money for them I guess.

Second issue, the "rep" they got from interscope looked like he was the coffee guy at any studio lot. Turns out they use him a lot for their events. It should be good to state that the winner doesn't get to see anyone at the label, they just have a consultation with him. In other words King Ryan found a buddy and said hey lets scam some people into thinking we have a connection with executives and I'll cut you a slice of the money. Dude isn't even A&R.

When he mentioned his title it was something like the guy in charge of events for the label, or some crap like that. My band mate invited her boss who actually is something in the music business and he even laughed at that guy's job title.

Finally I just want to say that this was a good experience in terms of learning about what not to get ourselves into. It's hard for musicians out there, especially in L.A or any big city and the last thing we need is to fall for events and people like this who only want to steal whatever little money we have.
