Beware of this company!
I first was introduced to Legally Mine at a medical education conference in New York City. This firm projects itself as a law firm ( but actually is not) that specializes in asset protection. Their presentation began with a story of a San Francisco based physician whose employee was sent out to buy lunch and was involved in a fatal automobile accident. Lawyers for the deceased family realized that the doctor, not the employee , had deep pockets and were successful in obtaining judgments against the doctor which effectively stripped him of all his assets, both professional and personal. They proceeded to outline and elaborate plan of formation of LLC’s and FLPs based in Alaska in Utah that would effectively shield its clients from future potential creditors. Their presentation was appealing. They were successful in coercing me and several of my colleagues into signing a contract with them calling for a payment of $5100. They said that their promotional plan was only available if they're clients signed up on that day. After I questioned whether their plan was beneficial for a W-2 employed physician they unequivocally stated that it was. It turned out, however, that that is not the case.
After completing a questionnaire about my assets, the firm developed a blue print plan for me and scheduled conference call 3 weeks later. They were supposed to deliver to me this blue print in a timely fashion so that I could review it with my financial advisor, accountant and attorney before the scheduled conference call. They delivered the plan to me on a Friday night before the scheduled conference call the following Monday. I was unable to review the data. After the call was completed, my advisors and I realized that the plan would be of minimal, if any, benefit to me and would require extensive paperwork to reorganize my affairs. They had issued a tax savings guarantee stating that the tax savings under their plan would at least cover the enrollment cost. It turns out that their benefits were best for physicians who were in private practice. The benefits for employed physicians such as myself were limited to a tax deduction whereby one would rent out his primary residence to the LLC owning a private residence. Such rent would be a tax deduction to the LLC. To me, this is shady business practice and tax deduction, at best! Other benefits which were advertised were of no use to me.
Immediately after the conference my advisors and I realized that Legally Mine’s program was useless to me and the next day I requested a full refund via e-mail outlining the reasons why.
For 2 weeks the company procrastinated stating that they were reviewing my file. Finally I received a phone call from a David Gibbs informing me that my request for a refund was denied.
I am warning all potential client's to beware of this firm which in my view is disreputable and unscrupulous.
