You aren't the first victim. Notify the courts asap with a certified letter that you have no knowledge of the alleged debt. Do not admit to anything. You must request verification of the debt from LBN and copy the court. Do this asap. Check the internet for sample letters and seek legal advise asap.

Go quickly, to the court clerk's office in which they filed. You need to obtain a copy of the court file (all documents). This will contain several important papers you should review. The Summons & Complaint will be the document stating what they are suing you for (the complaint) and the Summons notifies you of the action and gives you a date by which you must file a response. Pay attention to this date.

Next look for a document telling who, where, what time/date and HOW they served you with the summons and complaint. This is often called a Proof of Service. Review this document carefully. It is VERY LIKELY they will say they either tried to serve you personally but you were not home so they served another adult or they mailed service to you. CHECK THE ADDRESS it is PROBABLY WRONG!

Collection attorneys are notorious for utilizing an OLD address stating it is your "last known address" for service. They will do this even if you are listed in the phone book or your credit file (Which I PROMISE you they looked at recently) has your current address. This is commonly known as "gutter" or "sewer" service.

The intent is that they KNOW you will not recieve notice of the hearing, you will not respond or attend and they win a judgement by default. The next thing you know your bank account or wages are garnished.
