I purchased two 24 month subscriptions to Maxim magazine from two teenagers raising money to go to Europe for $126.00 cash on October 24, 2011. As of today, February 23, 2012 I have still not received the magazine. The statement on the back of the receipt states that there is a 120 guarantee delivery. The 120 mark was on February 20, 2012. I paid cash and the receipt numbers are 4055026 and 4055027.

The sellers ID is smidav08 and his name is David Smipau or Smipeo. The handwriting is hard to read but the last name begins with SMI I am not satisfied with this order whatsoever. Not only is the breach of guarantee unsatisfactory, its a breach of contract. Therefore, I feel that it is only fair that I be able to cancel the subscription and receive a full refund. No one has called or emailed me back after attempting to contact them.

Just confirming all of this...

AUTHOR: magcrewisascam - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, July 05, 2012

I worked for this company until about 4 days ago (july 2nd 2012).  David recently just got arrested and is now in jail.  He had it coming. Everyone that works in the magazine business for a long time has it coming at one time or another.

I'm still very angry and frustrated with the life I lived the past 3 months on mag crew.  Thor was my manager.  he is an alcoholic.  David is greedy and will lie about anything that he needs to, to get the upper hand in a situation.  Whether it be to the "jones's", to his supposed "friends", or even to his family.  They have the art of scamming people down to a profession.

Thor is a good guy at heart but hes got a devil raging inside of him.  I worked from 8 am to about 930 pm every single night for 3 months straight. were supposed to get sundays off but i only got 3 sundays off in the whole span of me working there.  I know that there are labor laws, and I know just about every single thing we did broke all the labor laws.  Maybe one store stop a day, that was about 5 minutes long, to grab a bag of chips and a soda, with the 5 dollars you had in your pocket.  You only get paid 5 a sale for selling one magazine subscription.  (cheapest one is $59)

I was forced to drive a big black van, that we stuffed about 17 agents in, when it is supposed to hold 14 ppl in.  The sad thing, is that last year, the crew had a car accident in their suburban, and it rolled 8 times and 4 kids on the crew lost their lives.  and now a year later, they are still doing the same exact thing.  No seatbelts.  Loading the car with too many people, and having a terrible vehicle to drive around in.

I didnt even have my physical drivers license on me, but if I said no to driving, then I would be immediately fired and stranded, states away from my home.  The van had a cracked front windshield, only 2 of the seatbelts in the van worked (not the drivers), the second left window was busted out and had duck tape over the whole window to cover it up.  the back windows couldnt crack open and were ducked taped shut.  Everyone had to get in and out of the passenger front door, because the sliding door on the side didn't open or close anymore.  It was hell.

I can assure you that David Smith is the one pictured on the right, and Thor Ostling is the skinnier guy on the left.  I want to bring down the whole entire magazine business and save the rest of the kids in the business from going through the daily hell I went through.  It would save a lot of mental anguish and pain.  None of those kids deserve that.  The managers pocket the money, and demand that you "push cash" every single day....."to pay for rent and draws and gas money."  It didn't make sense to me though,, because we ran more checks than cash, and our managers should have fat bank accounts full of money from the checks we ran.

SUSPICIOUS.

The other manager in our hotel was KEITH MORTON.  He is more of an a*****e and scam artist than Thor, IN MY OPINION.  This magazine stuff needs to stop.  Its not legitimate.  It feels like a whole "pimps and h*e's" business.  Ive heard from the managers plenty of times when were having a tough time running cash, "I dont care if you have to ROB SOMEONE, WE NEED CASH."

F'D up right?

Like the previous person said.  Don't buy a magazine off these kids... Just give them a snack and water and treat them kindly, because they are having a rough rough time out there....And coming from experience , the people that treat you so kindly and feed you really make your day, and reminds you of being back home with parents that love you.  Pray for those kids out there that are lost.  They need it.

Glad You Got Your Refund

AUTHOR: laura.sandifer - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 29, 2012

Glad to hear you got refunded!  Most people give up after a few attempts and consider it lost money, which is sad because $126 is A LOT of money, especially in these times.

I do have to say that Thor does run is business more honestly than some of the others (such as Prime Time Consulting owned by Skyler McClellan, and Frontline Communications owned by Tim Shannon.)  But it's hard to keep track of over 20 agents and who's actually doing good business versus those who are scamming and doing illegal things to get their money.

All I can say is, if you get another agent, offer them some water and a snack.  When I worked as a magazine sales person, we would work 10 hours without food, and our only breaks would be for about 10 minutes in the car driving to our next neighborhood.  Many of us would ask for snacks and food at the door because, unless we ate in the morning at 7am, or next meal wouldn't be till around 7pm.

Refund Received after several weeks.

Just a quick update on this. I was finally contacted after sending several emails and posting several comments on all affiliated company sites/contacts. At first I was told that they sent the refund but it was returned because of a bad address. I checked my emails/posts and the correct address was given. Several weeks later, I finally received a refund.

Another user posted a picture of the salesman and that is a correct photo so be on the look out and don't let yourself get scammed like I did!

David Smith

AUTHOR: laura.sandifer - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 29, 2012

I didn't work for LTP, but the sales company I used to work for was partnered with them (until the managers got into a fist fight and parted ways, separating their companies completely.)  The young man who sold you the magazine subscription was David Smith.  The ID number SMIDAV08 is his the first three letters of his last name, first three letters of his first name, and 08 refers to the crew number so the clearing house can keep track of which companies are getting orders in.

The whole thing is supposed to be legitimate, but many of the employees of these types of companies become corrupted and desperate and steal the money from the subscriptions they've gotten.  If he were using pencil or erasable pen, then he probably change the subscription to something else to get two orders out of it so he could meet his quota of 10 sales that day.

I'm so sorry you got scammed.  He is one of the worst.  He was actually fired while I worked with him for stealing checks and forging signatures.  But they hired him back because, despite breaking the law, he still brought money into the company...

Tell me if I'm wrong, but the picture I've posted is him, correct?  And just so you know, the man holding the pie is the owner of the company.
