I had recently broke up with my fiance and I had decided to try match.com and had committed to paying the 119.95 for 6 months to get the 6 month guarantee. After 2 days of using the site I had decided it was not for me! I had received some activity on the account.
I called to see if there was anyway to cancel and get a refund. I told them it did not have to be full that they could bump me down for the 1 month subscription so that they did not lose money. They said there was nothing I could do because I had used to site (sent and received messages).
So I am out 120 dollars for 2 days on a website that is totally bogus. I explained that their business practices were unfair. They said I could have called to get a free trial but no where on the website does it say that! They have something called State Terms where in certain states a customer can get there money back before the 3 day mark no questions asked.... my state isn't one of them!
They kept telling me there was nothing they could do with I know is a BUNCH OF CRAP! If they can do it for one state why not another. What is worse is I am now unemployed and could really have used that 120.00 dollars for something better like my electricity bill or groceries for my daughter! BUYER BEWARE OF MATCH.COM! RIP OFF!!!!!!

"committed to paying the 119.95 for 6 months"
That's correct, you committed yourself to a contract.
"They said I could have called to get a free trial but no where on the website does it say that!"

I met my wife (seven years married now) on Match.com. Of course I had a job and no kids to support.

Not a rip-off

I am sorry that you are having a problem with match.com, but what you are explaining is not a rip-off. You signed up for a six month service to get a guarantee, and you did use and received some interest from the site.
Despite the fact that you only used it for a couple of days, you did in fact use it. They have kept they end of the bargain at that point. You sound like you are having buyers remorse, which would not necessarily be a cause for refunding money.
The 3-day cancellation term you mentioned, in most states would only apply if a seller contacted you outside of their business. If they came to your door or called you on the phone, you would probably have a cause of action, but in this case you contacted them. That would negate any 3-day cancellation.
As for using money that could have been used for utilities or groceries for you daughter, well unfortunately that is where you should have been more careful with your money. It is not the fault of a business where you got the money, but rather a conscious decision on your part. If that had been the consideration, you should not have obligated the money.
I suggest that since you have paid for a six-month service that you use it as much as possible. Just make sure they are aware, through their cancellation policy and procedures, that you do not want it renewed automatically.
Also be very careful with the people they match you with, make sure you screen them carefully before going out, that you meet them at a location away from your home, and that you meet them for lunch before committing to any night time date.
I wish you well and hope things work out for you. However, this is not a rip-off.
