I purchased 400 feet of Belmont Vinyl Fencing from Menards in Lima, Ohio in May 2014. In the last 1 1/2 years I have had to replace the fence panels continusly when ever the temps drop below 40 degrees. The poorly designed/cheaply made plastic brackets holding the panels break causing the panels to blow out & completely disassemble themselves damaging the panels. Menards has told me, that although they still sell the product, warranty on the parts is no longer available because the vendor is no longer in business.
The product was advertised as "Maintenance Free with a Limited Lifetime Warranty" At no time was I ever told the vendor had gone out of business & the warranty was no longer valid. I was told by Menards to paint & use ugly galvinized 2 x 4 joist hangers as a fix for the problem.
This is a well know problem (complaints go back to 2010) with these plastic brackets. Menards is fully aware of the problem yet continues to sell this product without advising the customer they can expect problems if they live in a cold climate. Stay away from this product unless you want a fence that will blow apart whenever the wind picks up. I am out over $7000.00 and my only option is to remove & replace the entire fence. I have filed a complaint with the Ohio Department of Consumer Affairs.

Online Instructions Don’t Specify Bracket Placement

I’m looking to install my fence but would like to avoid the issue stated previously. I went online & the 2 page yardworks installation instructions don’t state anything about brackets being at the proper end of the side screw channel.
I have attached the installation instructions. Can you provide more detailed installation instructions?

Situation resolved

I went to this customers location and did a fence inspection. This problem was caused by the consumer not following installation directions. The consumer, or their installer, used the brackets improperly to extend the fence as much as possible leaving gaps. By not putting the brackets at the proper end of the side screw channel, when winter came, the fence was put under undesigned strained as vinyl contracts slightly during the winter. This combination of factors led to a weakened fence and it's eventual failure.
Even with the situation listed above, we have given this customer free materials to repair their fence and they are now completely happy, to our knowledge.
