Smart Car leases are a very bad idea unless you like to drive a car with a super weak engine and poor road performance. Secondly, you cannot ever sell the car without taking a huge loss since the Smart car has a very poor retail value once driven off the dealers lot, many times worse than any other car on the road.
I leased a Smart car in 2013 financed through Mercedes Benz Financial and been trying to sell the car almost 2 years to date and no one within the United States is willing to buy it unless I drop the cars price to nearly half of its lease value. In other words, if I want to sell this car I have to be willing to take a mega loss of several thousand Dollars while in the lease.
Having driven all different brand cars in my 30 years of driving experience, I cannot believe that Mercedes Benz Fianncial has trapped me in a prison like circumstance having to stay in the lease forcefully or pay up thousands of Dollars to get out of it. I cannot sell the car as I cannot afford and am unwilling to pay for such large losses due to the vehicle's ridiculously low resale value which can be certified by CarMax to be much lower than its lease.
This is absurd and some law firm who specializes in Class Action ought to pick up on this one. It's worth fighting for otherwsie over 10,000 Smart car buyers each year withing the U.S. may get themselves in trouble when leasing a Smart car without knowing that if they are unhappy about the car's performance or similar issue, they cannot sell or return the car to the dealer unless willing to take a serious finanical loss. To me it sounds like highway robbery through legal channels. Bravo Mercedes Benz Financial, Bravo! Well thought out indeed.
