Mercury Marine Ripoff Worst Customer Service Ever Worthless Warranty Fond Du Lac Wisconsin

I purchased a 90HP 4-stroke outboard from Chapman's Sport Center in Davison Mi, in the spring of 2002. Mid summer of that year I found gas was mixed in the oil and the crankcase was overfull. I changed the oil and after only 3 hours it was again overfull and smelled of gas. I took it in for service and was told they were putting some chemical through it to seat the rings. Dealer had for 2 weeks.

When I got it back same problem. I again returned it to the dealer for service. After 4 more weeks they removed carbs and checked them and again ran a chemical through it to seat the rings. By now it was fall and I winterized and stored it. In the spring of 2003 I again had same problem and took it to the dealer asking for a factory rep to over see the repair. I called Mercury Marine and they refused to get involved unless dealer called them. After 2 more trips to the dealer I was told by the service manager at chapmans, that it might not even be ab-normal.

At Mercury's instruction, they put thicker oil in and told me to run it 1 quart low to increase engine temp. They also replaced the fuel pump. The fuel pump was the problem. So after hous and hours of running with gas in the crankcase and them putting an abrasive substance through my motor I was fed up. I called a premier Mercury Dealer about 50 miles away and told him what had happened. He was astounded and said I should immediatly request a new motor. powerhead from Mercury. To make a long story a little shorter, they totally refused. Every marine mechanic I have spoken with says dump the motor as quick as you can. So here I am with a $7000 worn out outboard and a worthless warranty that expires this spring. I'm now shopping for anything except a Mercury !
