Very simply, bought a Gateway with Win 8, in Dec 13. It worked well for nealy 10 months. I did not know that there was a "trip link" to upgrade and somehow but not clearly known, I upgraded to 8.1 in or about Oct 2014. The computer has not performed correctly since and I lost all programs and required 2 "refreshes" i.e., reinstalls. This did not help. It still does not work. About a month ago I first called a site advertising Microsoft Tech Support. I called 5x. Each time a thick accented male or female would try to sell me a repair "package" which I refused.
They would run me through a series of "logmein" repairs. Then when they could go no further, they would promise me a "second tier tech support" person would call in a few hours or a day at most and guaranteed they could fix the "issue." NOT ONE CALLED back to my cell which records phone calls. The computer is still a mess. Programs don't work and I probably will take the computer back to the seller for a store credit. Ladies and Gentlemen, I was a consumer trial lawyer for over 30 years. NO ONE IS IMMUNE FROM GETTING LIED TO. The skill levels of these techs is suspect and they have little integrity about what causes the problem. They must be stopped.
My suggestion is that if anyone has been cheated and lied to like me, to sue them in your state's equivalent of Small Claims court and when you do sue Microsoft, Inc, Bill Gates and the store you purchased the computer from. Windows 8 and 8.1 do not perform as advertised and have, per my personal tech's examination, damages my computer. Sure, I can afford a new one, but most folks cannot! If you want to know how to win your case shoot me an email at SNCR.Defenders@yahoo.com. We will respond with a direct contact to my office. We are NOT attorneys looking for clients. I am simply pissed beyond belief at a billion dollar corporation screwing the public who fails to clean up its act. Lets hit them in their pocketbooks and stop the lies and manufacturing of faulty software supported by slickly rude and untrained liars and cheats.

Microsoft Tech. Support

I am not an employee of either Microsft or "Microsft Tech. Support". What happened is you got scammed by a fake compnay. Not by Microsoft itself. I have been on many calls associated with these scammers. If your PC is not functioning properly take it to a local repair shop if possible.
