We purchased a 61" Mitsubishi Television with the extended warranty. First the light box went out and we had to spend over $150 repairing that.
Then within a month we noticed a few white dots on the screen. Eventually the dots almost filled the screen. We contacted Mitsubishi and we were told that they would send us the replacement chip. They stated the issue was due to a defective chip.
They stated they would ship the chip for free to a Licensed Mitsubishi Repair Specialist. He would charge around $150-$200 and WE would have to take him the television.
I kept speaking with them and told them that was unacceptable. After numerous phone calls the price went to $500 and I would have to take it in.
Then they finally told me if I was unhappy just buy a new television from someone else. It was no skin off their nose. They already made their money and THEN some.
Now they won't even return my calls.

When did you purchase this TV and how long was the warranty?

First the "light box" failure is actually an item that is just a special lamp to light up the screen and does have a life expectancy to it. It is a "wear" item.
Second, Texas Instruments manufactured the part you need and sold it to MANY manufacturers.
Sounds like your set is at LEAST five years old.
"They stated they would ship the chip for free to a Licensed Mitsubishi Repair Specialist. He would charge around $150-$200 and WE would have to take him the television."
You stated Mitsubishi won't help you, but it looks like you turned down the help they offered.
No, I don't work for them.
"I kept speaking with them and told them that was unacceptable."
Look at the new plasma or LCD flat screens on the market...think you'll like them and they don't even have a "light box." Plasmas get a great picture, especially in darkened rooms. LCD's get nearly as good a picture, use less power and work very well in brighter rooms...good luck.
