Being new to the area, I was looking for a Denist to take my family. My insurance company recommended Monarch Dental. I just needed a cleaning, so I figured this one would work just fine. My wife made appts for the whole family. When I went in for my cleaning, they stated that they would first inspect my gums to diagnose what type of "treatment" I would need. I thought this was a little odd, considering that I was just in for a cleaning. They examined my gums and they were calling out #'s from 1-6. I had no idea what they were doing, but went along with it. When the hygenist was finished, the lady from the front office came in and presented me with an offer for treatment for $460. She stated that I had some erosion on my gumline, and they needed to do a deep clean and treat the effected areas with antibiotic inserts below the gumline and this would take care of it. I was really caught off guard. I have never had any history of gum disease. They did not even give me an option of just cleaning my teeth. After I had this done, I went home and told my wife. My wife has perfect teeth and zero cavities. THEY TRIED THE SAME THING ON HER!! This is obviously a scam. What a ripoff. We got our insurance bill the other day for the 5 cleanings for my family. They apparently told my wife that the children also needed a sealant for their teeth. My insurance company stated that that was not needed as the kids had recently had this done according to records. WE NOW HAVE $2,300 IN DENTAL BILLS!!!! This all started because WE NEEDED A CLEANING!!!

Wow, sounds like my story. They took x-rays, so I had to wait 2 years to get a new dentist (covered by insurance that is). My antibiotic treatment was to cost $1200. Anyhow...walked out of course. 2 years later, go to a new dentist and my gums mysteriously healed themselves. Monarch is a complete scam.

Not necessarily a rip off

The 1-6 they were calling out is the amount of depression they get when the press the instrument down on your gums...the higher the number, the worse it is. Just because you have no cavities does not mean you don't have early stages of gum disease. And yes, if you do, it will require deep cleanings every three months instead of regular cleanings twice a year. I had a tooth that was at a 6-my dentist inserted the antibiotic into it, and it was back to a 2 within two weeks. I guess it just depends on if you are cool with all your teeh falling out because your gums are too weak to hold them in place or not...
