Monitronics has been my worst consumer decision ever. In addition to be lied to by the sales person who claimed that the former home owner used the service, promising updated key pads, window decals, and even going by a more popular home security system name, the security system does not even work. When trying to arm our home for a seven day vacation, the system gave an error message and we were unable to contact customer service.
When contacting the company upon our return, the representative was rude and told me that I was wrong, that it was impossible that I was not able to reach anyone. She also insisted that she was able to perform a check and that my system is working fine. I've tried multiple times to get the system to work, still with no luck. I explained that I was not going to pay and wanted to cancel the service. After being transferred to a manager, the lady on the phone was hostile. When I said that I was going to post reviews online, she said that I was threatening her, my conversation was being recorded, and that she could seek legal action against me. I said that I would like a copy of the recording, which she refused and said that I was being hostile. Note, I never raised my voice nor was I in anyway hostile.
After multiple phone calls, I finally spoke to someone who agreed to cancel my service, but said that I would have to pay 80% of the remainder of the contract to do so.
I still do not have security for my home. I receive a minimum of three phone calls a day, some as early as 5am from the company, asking for payment and telling me that my account is past due. I am planning to go ahead and pay the past due amount and continue the payments, simply to protect my credit rating. This entire experience is a nightmare. A highly recommend that others out there choose a reputable company and take their business elsewhere.
