We have been receiving calls from a collector NAFS for a half sister that is my biological father's daugher. I did not grow up with her and only for a very brief period in my life had contact with. I have not spoken to her in over two years. I don't have any information on her, and I did not know she even had my number. I told them all of this. Still we get the calls.
My wife called them tonight to ask them to quit calling we don't have info and the lady actually started yelling at her and started banging the phone down on her desk. My wife asked to speak to a supervisor who was even more belligerant. That is when I stepped in. I tried to be calm, he called me a liar, and told me my half sis was my ex wife and I knew her info!! He bragged about his six figure salary, which I told him he was no more than a low life telemarketer. Our words were heated until I hung up.
We of course could not get an address, But I will. There is a class action lawsuit in Colorado Springs against this company according to the police officer we reported the harrassment too. A lady in Monument know about it from her post, I wish I could contact her. The site blocked the link to the class action lawsuit. Maybe if she sees this she could give me an attorny's name who deals with this.
I don't deserve the harrassment, I don't have the debt, and I did not authorize my number to be given as a reference, as well as I already informed the company of the info I had. That should have ended the calls.

Info regarding your NAFS experience

David,
Rule #1 is to NEVER speak to any debt collector on the phone. Upon first contact demand everything be in writing, and send a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS request as per your rights under the FDCPA which you can read at FTC.gov, and while on that site, file online complaints for the abuses and violations of your legal rights.
These type of debt collectors are usually crackheads and derilects and only get paid if they collect in most cases, or lose their pitiful job if they do not meet quota. Most of these collectors have serious debt problems themselves.
They got your distant family information through public records and by calling and harassing anyone they found information on until they got your information.
They are in violation of federal law for even disclosing that they were debt collectors and also for speaking to you about someone elses debt. Two violations here right off the bat.

Send NAFS a Letter

David,
In most cases, you must tell them in writing not to call you anymore. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested.
See my report at ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff215225.htm. In that post is the text of a letter I sent to NAFS. I hope you find it useful.
It's been three weeks since I received my green return receipt requested postcard. So far, NAFS has not called again.
I did NOT sign the letter that I mailed to NAFS. I do not want them to know what my signature looks like. That way, someone could not forge my signature onto a document (such as a contract) then claim that I owed a debt.
Good luck!
