infomercial for the "Old Brooklyn Lantern" offers: "call now and get 1st lantern for just $12.99 plus free shipping AND get a 2nd lantern for FREE!"
I called and was informed by an automated message that I'd be charged a total of $27.99 and would get a $15.00 coupon to use toward future purchases at the as seen on tv web site...
I did not provide credit card info, and after several attempts I was finally connected to a live operator who explained the scam;
She said that the 1st lantern is $12.99 plus $6 s&h, and the 2nd lantern $9.00 charge is a "handling fee". I referred her to the infomercial which was still on-she said "oh yeah, the $9.00+$6.00 totals $15.00, and that is the amount you will get in the coupon, so in a round about way you are getting the free shipping and the 2nd lantern for FREE...
