I googled affordable health insurance and I clicked a link to get a free quote. The guy on the phone was really friendly and told me he found a plan for me and my newborn for $260 a month and that there would be a $99 instalation fee that was nonrefundable. He told me that I would be able to use my benefits on Saturday when I receive the ID cards in my email. I received no email. I called them back on Monday and they told me that sometimes the emails don't go out until the end of the day and wait until 10 tomorrow morning. Still no email.
I called at 11:30 and they said they would send it out and to give them 1-2 hours. Still no email. I call them back 5 minutes before the office closed and he apologized and said he got in trouble for the delay and that I should receive something soon. I was already starting to feel like it was a scam because it didn't seem very professional that the guy on the phone kept asking if I had a doctor's appointment already scheduled.
I had my boyfriend look over the email they sent me and he told me that the plan wasn't health insurance at all. It basically covered $1000 worth of hospital bills, 3 doctors visits per year and it came with a prescription discount card. When my boyfriend called the office to ask for a refund the sales representative told him I was entitled to that, but when he explained that I was asking for a refund because we feel that I was manipulated into buying something that was falsely advertised and asked to speak to the sales manager, he was promptly hung up on. I had to call my bank to have the charge investigated because I fully intend to get my "nonrefundable" $99 fee back. This is definitely a scam. It is not health insurance like they claim.
