On 6/1/07, I paid my monthly online credit card payment to Orchard and it stated that although I was making a payment on today it would not credit my account until Monday which meant I would be charged a late fee of $30. (Although my due date is on a Sunday, 6/3/07). This makes no sense to have due dates on weekends.

I contacted customer service and had a long unfriendly conversation with the representative who was obviously programmed through massive training to speak "strictly what's best for the company, not the consumer". He even went as far as to agree that I was correct in saying the company was only concerned about themselves profiting not the customer.

I explained to him that this was an unethical billing practice because Friday is considered a business day at least until 4pm or 5pm and payments should post on this day or Saturday not Monday which would generate late fees for most customers. I also told him that it was unfair for someone who paid on Thursday to have until Saturday to receive credit, but not use the same method of practice for payments made on Friday.

I explained that I would like to close my account line and continue to pay the balance because I obviously was misled to believe that this was a reputable company. He explained there penalties involved called a "maintenance fee" applied each month to my account because of this request. I laughed and told him this was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. He explained it was in the agreement. I told him I didn't care what was in your company's agreement it does mean it is ethical or legitimate to treat customers in this fraudulent manner.

I recommend not using this company by no means because the openly admit not benefitting the consumer but themselves.

Duane is correct, and is just stating the obvious facts.

The OP should have read and understood the terms and conditions on the account.

With that said, understand that a due date is a number, NOT a DAY. It is always a numerical due date and is nearly the same every month as per the scheduled billing cycle, and number of days in the month.

And, a due date means that the payment MUST be RECIEVED on or BEFORE the scheduled due date. For example, if your payment was recieved that friday, there would have been no problem.

Why not make your payment 2-3 days earlier just to avoid problems like this? That is a very simple and obvious solution.

Consumers interest??

though I sympathize with people who have debts.. I am deffinitly one of those people. What makes any of us think that ANY company who extends credit towards any of us is going to look out for our best interest? They are in it for the MONEY! they give us credit so they can charge us for using their money! They have it, we don't, we borrow it from them, and they bend us over for using it! Some may be nicer about how they molest us, but they all put their hands down our pants.

Are you for real?

Duane, do you work for Orchard Bank?
I have seen several comments you have left where you have apparently defended these low life con artists.
I have had many credit cards over the years and never put up with the BS I put up with from them.
It wasn't my fault that I lost 2 jobs and then had financial problems which is the ONLY reason I went with this credit card.
I asked them for a credit increase and was told that due to my credit report not being great, they couldn't do it and they are also increasing my percentage by 7 points! They know that we have credit problems which is why we accepted their card and now they're taking advantage of the fact instead of helping us!

that is posted online, as well as the written agreement you obviously had no problem accepting. It is clearly stated about the posting of payments.

Considering that there is a time lapse from the moment that you enter a payment and the actual time that it posts, you have to make sure to enter the payment early enough. You can do this, and actually schedule the date that you want the payment to post. So for example, I could go online on May 20 and enter a payment, scheduled to post on June 1.

There is also an option to make a "rush" payment, which posts the same day that you make the payment - EVEN ON WEEKENDS. The fee for this is 12.95, but it is cheaper than the late fee, and possibly an over limit fee plus you get your payment posted on time.

If per chance you read this over the weekend, you can still get your payment made so that it is on time. Next month plan ahead.
