Purchased Western Digital 120 GB hard drive at Fry's on Friday, October 17, 2003, eligible for $50 rebate. Promptly submitted rebate forms/receipt/UPC code and tag from bottom right corner of box. Received e-mail notification on 11/2 that the UPC code for the 60 GB HDD was not eligible for the $30 rebate. Huh?

I asked they recheck, this was not the item I bought nor the rebate I submitted. Twice the reply was the same; the UPC code was not eligible for the $30 rebate. They asked that I submit the original UPC code, which of course I don't have because I sent it to them. Today (11/3) faxed the original receipt (800-886-8370) per their instructions in the e-mail; receipt clearly marked "Rbt" next to the item in question.

Starting to feel a little queasy... I could have gotten the same item for less money (without having to go through the rebate process) with a couple of days wait for shipping, but I gave my money to the local store instead. I'll be thinking hard before I do that again, regardless of whether I ever get my $50 or not.

If Fry's doesn't care enough to do something about the rebate problems, they don't deserve my business. I'll spend less money elsewhere (and won't be frisked at the door).
