We were contacted by Tyler Lane (888) 723-1849 an insurance broker who sells health insurance.  I believe Mr. Lane works for George Steele Insurance Company.  Mr. Lane provided us a health insurance quote from Patriot Health that was about half of what were were paying for COBRA.  He indicated the insurance company would pay us $105.00 per doctor visit and 75/80% of the charges after five visits.

He also indicated we would be responsible for 20/25% of the charges for hospital/surgical fees.  For prescriptions the fees were stated as Tiered with flat rates ranging from $20 to $50.  Mr. Lane indicated in order to obtain the low rates we were required to purchase life insurance from Fidelity Insurance at a rate of $47.85 per month.

Basically almost everything was a misrepresentation.  The insurance company is actually Health Option One and their membership guide show no reference to 75/80% payments, prescriptions or a need to purchase life insurance.  In fact, Health Option One does not pay for doctor visits beyond five for an individual in a calendar year.  They pay a flat fee for each surgical procedure, not an unlimited share as represented during the phone call.

Be aware if you are contacted by a broker attempting to sell you Patriot Health, requiring you to purchase life insurance to obtain a low rate it is probably a ripoff.

False Complaint

AUTHOR: Rep. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 06, 2012

Let me first say that the majority of this information is incorrect.  Often times these complaints are a direct result of confusion on the part of the client, AS IS THIS CASE.  The client is clearly confused, as they have even gotten the company name wrong.  The much larger issue in this particular case is that when the client had questions due to their lack of understanding, they cancelled the coverage and "Blogged" about it.  The intelligent and responsible thing to do would have been to contact the agency and ask about these issues.

So often people are quick to place blame anywhere but on themselves, and unfortunately this is a large part of our society's problems.

For the sake of the general public, let me also make it clear, that it in no way behooves an agent to falsify information about any policy.  For those of you that are unaware, insurance agents work on commissions.  More importantly, the client has 30 days to review the policy and receive a refund, as this client did.

Once the client has cancelled, that agent loses their commission, which means they are not being paid.  No agent would intentionally waste an hour of their time writing a policy that they are not being compensated for; I assure you they like getting paid!

In closing, let me say that I hate what has transpired with this client.  It was a waste of both our time and theirs.  The client of course has been refunded their premium, and the issue is resolved.  Ultimately this entire situation could have been resolved much earlier and easier by simply contacting the agent.
