I am moving from CO to MN. I put $500.00 down for the moving and my cc was debited on 06/03/05.

I got on the internet and read all the bad publicity about Patriot Moving & all of their alias names.

I contacted them back and left a message stating I wanted to cancel. I heard nothing back. Up until then they (Sheldon Williams) was talking to me)

I need my $500.00. I went through their cancellation process to get a refund. I am waiting.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

You appear to have cancelled correctly

Beth, I was not so lucky as to get out before the move. My Rip Off Report is around here somewhere, from 2003. Patriot, then known as National Moving Network, hired AY Transport for me. The only consolation is that both companies are under investigation by the DOT, FBI, IRS, US Treasury, and several other lettered agencies, and AY has had their license revoked for the fourth time.

As long as you sent it via Certified Mail, Return Receipt requested, you are OK. That is exactly what the back of their contract says. Give them two weeks, then call the Credit card company directly.

I did all that you said. I even had it notarized. You were right--they did contact me but said nothing about time frame or registered letter. Only that it would take 7-10 working days to refund money. Enough time to make it too late for me to send a registered letter. But I already did it. thanks for the tip.

Did you ever get your refund? When did this happen to you?

If all you did was to leave them a phone message, then you are not truly cancelled yet. If you read the back of your contract (but I think you must not have one yet) it will state that the only way to legally cancel and get back your deposit is to type and sign a letter stating you are cancelling your move with PM, and are expecting a full and immediate refund. You must then send it to their PO Box via Certified Mail, Return Receipt requested. Voicemail, email, or regularly-mailed letters will not be considered a full cancellation.

They will not contact you to tell you of this policy, they will simply let you think you have cancelled by voicemail until the 3 day window has passed. Do this immediately.

If you have not gotten back your deposit in two weeks, issue a chargeback request to your credit card company.
