Unbelievable - this is clearly not a real moving company - after dealing with these hucksters, one gets a mental image of a garage, or rented storefront with 10 or 12 people on the phone, trying to separate you from your money.
They are NOT a moving company. They will contract your move out to what MUST be a "lowest bidder" independent trucking firm. There is no accountability whatsoever. It will take WEEKS to see your belongings, if you EVER get your stuff. I have heard of some who don't - we did, amazingly - but it was damaged, and it stank when it did arrive.
When we called or emailed, they would say, "Please hold" and immediately disconnect us. When we DID finally get to speak to someone, they were vague, then unsure as to the status or location of our stuff, then rude, then downright obscene.
Go with a national company, if you're moving, someone who has a reputation at stake, and a REAL customer service department. I would have paid two or three thousand dollars more for the peace of mind of dealing with a legitimate company that would deliver promptly, and as promised, and with our goods intact. The movers themselves had tried (unsuccessfully) to repair damage they did to a very valuable piece of furniture from Scandinavia by NAILING it back together. They were trying to conceal the damage!
The independent truck company they hired to deliver our goods uses local "labor pool" labor to load your truck, too. That means you have drug addicts and alcoholics, and people who cannot hold a traditional job loading the truck. The first guy they sent to us was a one-legged man, who bless his heart, tried unsuccessfully to make it up the ramp. I gave him $20, and sent him home.
We were also charged over $1000 more than agreed to, before we could get our stuff brought to our new home.
Caveat emptor!!!!

There are problems with all movers

There are problems with all movers if you look long enough. In several moves across the U.S. I had from poor to exceptional service. It didn't matter whether the company name was nationally known, or a independent trucker.
"The independent truck company they hired to deliver our goods uses local "labor pool" labor to load your truck, too. That means you have drug addicts and alcoholics, and people who cannot hold a traditional job loading the truck."
This doesn't necessarily apply just to independent truckers. Some major movers make the driver responsible for finding his own labor to load/unload. Most people who are willing to do this job are those who cannot find easier employment (everyone from immigrants to convicts). The job is simply hard, tedious and unfulfilling. Even a hard working, upstanding citizen who takes this job, or that of a packer, usually doesn't keep it long, only until something easier comes along.
With an independent trucker pulling a large trailer coast to coast, the trucker is going to get the most bang for his buck. The fuel costs and maintenance of the truck alone preclude loading only your load and going from A to B. He is going to leave with as full a load as possible and make stops enroute to offload/pickup.

Uh... who said I DIDN'T pay $4000?

Sorry, Mario, the problem isn't with the consumer. It's with unethical service providers.
Sorry your business failed. I can hardly believe that an ethical moving company with a good reputation COULD go out of business, but, there it is, I guess.
I didn't get a bargain, just a really bad move. I wasn't necessarily looking for a bargain, either, just a seamless, problem-free move. My company was paying for it, what did I care how much it cost? If I made an error, it was that I didn't research Patriot Movers or Modern Movers well enough. These scam artists thrive on that - the fact that, often in life, many of us need to move fairly quickly, as was the case for me. My company wanted me in Florida within 30 days. I made it in 15 days, and my stuff took about 60 days, and went to Minneapolis, and Detroit, and the West Coast to boot.
As I said, I suggest STRONGLY that everyone use a reputable national mover with a real reputation to protect, and with a real customer service department.
I have since moved again, and one middle-aged guy and his wife did it all, packing, etc. in a week. I know, because the guy was ME. I will NEVER hire a mover again.
So, you see, the scammers are ruining the industry. If it was MY industry, I'd do something about it. Lobby for strict legislation, or whatever.
All the best, God bless.

BUT YOU SEE THIS IS THE REAL PROBLEM!! THE CONSUMER!!

YOU SEE, THAT'S WHERE THE PROBLEM BEGINS..
THE INTERNET. ALL OF YOU PEOPLE TRY TO FIND THE "DEAL" AND THEN THE "DEAL" FINDS YOU.
ALL OF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT TO MOVE A TWO BEDROOM APT FROM NYC TO FL WILL COST YOU ABOUT $3000 TO $4000.
ALL OF YOU WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE THE NICE SWEET VOICE THAT TELLS YOU "OH, DON'T WORRY, THE ESTIMATE IS ONLY $1100 AND YOUR DELIVERY DATE IS NOT A PROBLEM"
MY DEAR FRIENDS, THAT IS WHY COMPANIES LIKE MAYFLOWERS OR NORTH AMERICAN, CHARGE WHAT THEY CHARGE, BUT VERY FEW BELIEVE THAT PRICE IS FAIR FOR YOU.
AND THAT'S WHY LITTLE COMPANY LIKE US GOES OUT OF BUSINESS, BECAUSE ALL OF YOU WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT CHEAP IS GOOD. NO WONDER WHY 95% OF THE COMPLAINTS AGAINST MOVERS ALL SAY THEY OVERCHARGED ME.
KEEP BELIEVING
