After many attempts to find a local source that had stock of a Frontier XE-V6 Desert Runner I contacted Pinnacle Nissan fleet sales in an effort to assist in the search.

The gentleman I contacted said he would help me and in a few days called me back to tell me he had found two vehicles that matched my interest in Petaluma California. I confirmed my interest and asked the salesman to make the arrangements.

The following day I received a call that both vehicles had been sold that day. Roughly a week later the gentleman called to inform me he had found another vehicle at the same dealer in California and asked if I was still interested. I confirmed that I was still interested and we agreed on a price of roughly $14975. after the $2500 rebate. I scheduled an appointment to meet with the salesman at 9:00 am the following day, Saturday.

The following day I met with the salesman who showed me the vehicel invoice - roughly $300 more than what we had discussed the previous day. We came to an understanding on price and the salesman completed a sales agreement. The agreement included several charges for which I struggled to understand.

1) $297 for paint coating
2) $5 charge for tire disposal (for a new car?)
3) $299 for documentation fees
4) $337 registration (using edmunds it should have been $271)

I asked for explanation for the "documentation" fee and the salesman told me he wasn't sure but it was "mandatory" and could NOT be removed. I was able to convince him to remove the $297 paint chg and to concede to tint my windows in lieu of removing the "documentation" fee. I'm still unable to figure out why my numbers, calculated before arriving, are roughly $1500 lower than the sales price but I agree to go forward.

So the deal was made and the paperwork completed by the salesman to send us to the "business" office.

A finance guy from the business office introduced himself and we were off to finalize the paperwork.

I spent almost 2 hours in this guys office as he presented all the evidence for how dangerous the Phoenix area is for car theft and how I should spend $ to protect my investment in the terms of paint coatings, service plans, gap insurance, and finally theft insurance. The bottom line is all this coverage would have cost me a minimal amount monthly, maybe $5 each month (assuming you ignore the extra 6 months of contract). My calc - the coverage would cost over $2500. I explained I had interest in a warranty service but not from the dealer whom I considered to be less than ethical and consequently would not be interested in their product. The finance guy leaves and brings in the "boss" who can give me the straight scoop on costs. Forget the fact that I said I was interested, period.

This goes on for an extended period , over an hour, before I reach my limit and explain that I'm now ready to go simply would like to sign the basic contract and return when the vehicle arrives to complete paperwork. The finance guy tells me I have to complete the paperwork or he will be in trouble. I respond with I don't have to do anything.

I begin to leave stating I need to talk to the salesman and the finance guy states he will talk to the "director". I make my way off the premises when the salesman is unable to be located.

The end result is I have spent 4 hours in a dealership where the bottom line is to lie and deceive the customer.
